I try to read books from different sides. I like hearing new ideas. It doesn't matter whether I agree or disagree with the author. The best use of relationship books for me is that they are good conversation starters. Lately I've been reading John Gottman. Each chapter gets us talking. I'm not sure what religion he is connected with.
Gottman is Jewish. He is also the leading expert on marriage (voted by his peers as one of the top ten psychologists of our time), having researched marriage for four decades. His seven principles for making marriage work can be backed by scripture as well, although it is secular research. I always recommend Gottman, even though it is secular.

Tim Keller is also pretty good, as is Alan Padgett, from the little I've read so far. I have not finished reading this book, but it's called "as Christ Submits to the Church - A biblical understanding of leadership and mutual submission."
