But Fani Willis seems to think she is

Congressional investigators are giving Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis a deadline to comply with document production requests related to her conversations with various federal authorities about investigations into President-elect Donald Trump.
The embattled Democratic Party prosecutor has until Dec. 9, to turn over any such files, according to a letter sent by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, on Wednesday.
The epistolary arguments began in August 2023, when the committee asked Willis for files related to her office’s “receipt and use of federal grant funds issued by the U.S. Department of Justice.”
Two additional letters asking for substantially the same materials followed in September and December of last year.
The Democratic DA seems to think she does not have to comply with the Judicial Oversight Committee is requesting - stonewalling information since August of 2023.

Willis response #1

Prosecutor to Jim Jordan: ‘You lack a basic understanding of the law’

“Its obvious purpose is to obstruct a Georgia criminal proceeding and to advance outrageous misrepresentations,” Willis wrote, referring to Jordan’s letter from two weeks ago. “As I make clear below, there is no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter, as you attempt to do.”

The Fulton County prosecutor went on to tell the Judiciary Committee chairman, “Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically.”

Willis response #2

Fani Willis Tells Jim Jordan to Pound Sand in Scathing Letter: ‘You Are Abusing Your Authority’

A charitable explanation of your correspondence is that you are ignorant of the United States and Georgia Constitutions and codes. A more troubling explanation is that you are abusing your authority as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to attempt to obstruct and interfere with a Georgia criminal prosecution. See O.C.G.A. § 16-10-24. Indeed, you confessed to this motivation on Mark Levin’s September 10, 2023, show: when discussing one of my office’s active prosecutions. you boasted, “We’re trying to get all the answers, but we’re trying to stop this stuff as well” (emphasis added). While you may enjoy immunity under the United States Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause, that does not make your behavior any less offensive to the rule of law.

Read the rest of Willis’ letter here.

Who reports to whom? A State DA to the Congressinal oversight committee?

That is laughable.

What is she hiding?

State =/= federal. Jordan has no jurisdiction.
What is she hiding?
She's not hiding anything, but as a prosecutor, as a matter of course she's not going to share anything that might queer the jury in an ongoing case if it were publicly revealed.

HEH - and what will be claimed when they issue a Subpoena? Will she follow the law or not? So far it is not.

Georgia’s payback machine: Fani Willis resists subpoenas by state lawmakers over Trump prosecution

That conflict found its way into yet another courtroom on Tuesday. Willis’s office defended itself against a subpoena by a state senate committee, which had demanded her appearance to explain how she might have spent money on Nathan Wade, her former special prosecutor and paramour, in the prosecution of now president-elect Trump and others charged in the election interference case. She rejected two subpoenas issued by the Senate special committee on investigations demanding her testimony and a barrel full of documents about the relationship, her office’s finances and the case.
I wonder why the Congress got involved -

Republicans want to know how Willis might have coordinated Trump’s prosecution with the Department of Justice and, ultimately, the Biden White House. But they are also contemplating how the results of the committee investigation may lead legislators to rewrite laws to take authority away from district attorneys, to cut Willis’s budget or to otherwise limit her authority to prosecute wayward Republicans.
Golly - Fani and the Biden White House possibly working in coordination to charged Biden's political foe.

No one is above the law including Fani.

He's not obstructing her investigation, he is conducting his own seperate investigation. The reality of this fact is going to be obvious to anyone not blinded by bias.

Fani will suffer the consequences for non-compliance

Maybe they can start there (in their jurisdiction) and ask DOJ for any communications with DA Willis.

"Possibly" they "might have" smuggled blood diamonds in black bananas, but there's no evidence of any such thing.

Are you an attorney? If not - thanks for your opinion - because there is a marked possibility that they are already operating in their jurisdiction - -

Maybe that is why even Fani in the two citations from left leaning sandal rags doe not bring the subject up

Here is the problem - the House Committee is NOT interfering - when the state conspires with the Federal - the federal government has a right to inquire.

Common Sense - they are asking what role the Federal Government (Joe' DOJ) had to play in the case.

Want me to say it again? The moment Fani invited interaction from the DOJ, it became a jurisdiction from the oversight committee. If she has no interaction between state and federal - then she could just state so and prove it. But she has not said that -

You can quote her letter as often as you want - it doesn't make her right.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been handed a loss in a legal battle to compel her to testify to Republican state lawmakers in Georgia accusing her of misconduct while prosecuting former President Donald Trump.
In an order filed on Monday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shukura Ingram denied on technical grounds an emergency request from Willis to block enforcement of a subpoena to testify before the Georgia state Senate's Special Committee on Investigations.
She is being investigated on the State level also as previously noted. She is stone walling the state also.

Here she is in defiance of the court:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis may have to pay attorney's fees to a conservative activist group after a hearing later this month.
Willis was sued by Judicial Watch in March. The group alleged that Willis failed to comply with an open records request for documents and communications sent to or received from special counsel Jack Smith and the U.S. House January 6 Committee.
Superior Court of Fulton County Judge Robert C.I. McBurney ruled on Tuesday that Willis is in default for failing to comply with court deadlines.
Evidently she has a history of defying court orders -

No one is above the law - not even Georgia DA's

I believe you have this backwards. Congress oversees the Federal Government, not Fani Willis. So, if they want the information about what was shared they should be going to the White House to ask -- you know, the part of government they can claim a Constitutional right to oversee. It seems to me the information provided from either side should be the same, so why does Congress insist to get it from Fani?

Oh, and to give you the answer, at least until after the Biden administration leaves, Biden will claim executive privilege (just as Trump did every time Congress asked for information from the Trump White House) so they are trying to get around that privilege claim by ignoring "State's Rights" (which Republicans used to strongly support).

As for Georgia it gets touchier. It does sound like she likely should turn over much of the information regarding spending and the appointment of Nathan Wade; if nothing else she should be working with the State legislature to testify and provide the information that will not impact her case. At the same time, she does have a right to protect the information she is using for her trial and not turn it over to the State Legislature; and I think most people would agree that the Republican legislator's main reason for attempting the investigation is to try and help Trump in the case Fani Willis is bringing against him.

Neither side is innocent here.

Didn't this same Jim Jordan refuse a congressional subpoena himself? From a body that does have jurisdiction over him? That Jim Jordan?

^_^

Are we calling for his arrest as well? If not, why not?

If Jordan has no jurisdiction, then she is not in violation of the law by ignoring him.
Big IF. But she is not claiming he doesn’t have jurisdiction, only posters here are.
