I would answer that I am generally quite content with my life, though, there’s always room for improvement. That doesn’t mean I approve of everything going on around me or that I feel we’re in a good place nationally. These are two separate things, in my mind.

And yet, we are told by a significant number, even here on this board, that we need a political revolution.

New High of 90% of Americans Satisfied With Personal Life

Naturally, high income, Republican and married households are the most satisfied. But this would be true, no matter who was president. It's still an encouraging trend.

In related news:

New U.S. jobless claims fall 15,000 to 202,000 and return close to a 50-year low

Should we be thankful for these trends or should we be critical?

Sounds like wisdom speaking.
How many lessons have we learned the hard way?
M-Bob

It is said that "A hard lesson is a good one."

I've had some pretty 'good' lessons. :(

I'd point back at @GoldenBoy89's comment as an explanation. Being satisfied with one's own personal circumstances does not necessarily mean that one is also satisfied with the state of the country as a whole or the treatment of those in the 10% that aren't satisfied. Furthermore, I can be happy with my current situation, and yet still see room for improvement.

God tells us to "be content, in whatever state you're in." I'm very content here in Wisconsin. ^_^
Hey, OldWiseGuy, I love this answer! I
am also very content here in Washington State even though I miss Alaska where I lived for 34 years. Your profile looks like either a wolf or a husky. Which? :)

Or:
Americans are becoming less happy
Americans are becoming less happy, and there’s research to prove it

Or:
America, Desperate For Happiness, Is Getting Less And Less Happy
A new survey finds that the U.S. is just the 18th happiest country in the world, because of poor health, poor economic mobility, and a lack of social cohesion.
America, Desperate For Happiness, Is Getting Less And Less Happy

I trust only polls I faked by myself.

Out of 330 million people in this country, I wonder how many did they ask in order to conclude what 90% of us think?

They probably polled a representative sample. :D

What percent of people are satisfied with our government?

I guess if "my government" = "my life", then youd have a point.

Wow, the reality check.

from your link:
Suicide rate in US continues to rise, new CDC data shows

That's a sobering reminder of the real situation, isn't it.

I don't think that's the "real" situation. I think what it is is people haven't developed the skills to deal with disappointment, heartache and pain. Suicide is seen as a viable option to just checkout. America is losing mental toughness. A victim mentality has taken over. There are some really tough things that can happen to a person line the death of a child, death or a spouse etc. Those are the really hard things to come to grips with.

But I've seen so many people want to die over things that are just stress related like not getting the grades you want in school or having a tough time with bills or some such thing. People kill themselves over someone calling them names or whatever. We used to tougher mentally. Now it's a thing to want to die for a permanent solution to temporary problems.

I don't trust this nonsense. There is far to much foolishness involved in this. We have so much, but people are always looking for more. Things, money, government handouts will never buy happiness. Most of the time we are not happy is because we want and want and want. We want what the other guy has. If we are not happy because of poor health it's because we don't take care of ourselves. We have better economic mobility that most of the countries in the world.

The happiness measurements are far too subjective.

Contentment is far easier to measure.

Yeah we all know the happiness surveys are completely useless for being true indicators.

I think we should be thankful. But satisfaction is a fleeting thing. We should be seeking contentment not happiness or satisfaction. The Bible teaches we should be content with whatever state we are in.

Without God, those stressing things seem huge, and maybe when something big in life is failing it feels hopeless, unfixable.....

With God, we know we can suffer a while and know this suffering is ultimately temporary, and hope is great.

Well obviously they will be labeled "representative sample's" but how many people make up such a representative sample?

Probably too few.
