I believe federal employees will do their jobs, even when their Cabinet heads are inexperienced billionaires and others determined to undermine them.
Obviously, morale will be bad as it is if your boss is what corporate lingo calls an empty suit.
And if there are layoffs the survivors will be overworked and ineligible for overtime.
Lots of them will have their resumes out with recruiters, and it will be harder to recruit new people, but they'll try to ride it out.
VA will no longer be a purple state.
2.9 million disrespected, undervalued employees can flip lots of elections.

You are forgetting those employees didn't vote for Trump in the first place.

And the firings will open up positions for new people giving them a good opportunity.

I saw this at my work. We had some problem employees who were being a drag on the administration and being so negative they were dragging other employees with them. We put so much pressure on them they left. We hired a bunch of new people who have been there a few years now and things are going well. The adminstration has set the vision and employees are working hard to accomplish it. It's great place to work now since we got rid of the obstructionists who were dragging everyone else down.

you can dismiss the Daily Signal and the Heritage Foundation as fake news. No one is going to stop you from doing that. However, the article is using real polling that was done. But, what the federal employees ought to understand that they should be accountable to their bosses.... instead of resisting their bosses.

And they are just as bad as the Moonie Paper and the other Rupert Murdoch publication where the Daily Signal doesn't link you to the actual poll or even to the org the poll was taken. I am aware of the Obama purges as I was serving at the time and was purged myself in 2013. But Obama didn't remove the head of a service on day one. Thankfully President Trump brought me back in 2020.

Many of the federal employees who are disheartened and still follow what we are directed to do are Republicans who voted for Trump. Don’t presume to understand what is happening from the federal government workers’ perspectives if you aren’t in that situation yourself (this specific situation, as it is unlike any other RIF, downsize, etc. than we have ever seen in the past).

197 officers in five years?

Heck, there were over 900 general officers at the time and thousands of lower ranking officers. The military loses more than 197 officers in a single month through normal attrition. I've studied that list. It has junior officers, officers who were in no position that would attract presidential attention...and even enlisted men. Apparently whoever complied that list thought "sergeants major" were officers. It would be laughable if people didn't take it seriously.
