Mudslides + Mandatory evacuation in Los Angeles - La Canada

Please pray. An Orthodox Priest lives in La Canada which is also under evacuation watch.

We are one block away from an area that has been evacuated and cannot use certain roads.

Thanks for your prayers, we are in for another storm this starting Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

However, the weather has dipped sharply into the low 40s (which is rare for LA in the daytime). Of course, with snow in the mountains, we are going to get close to freezing or drop below freezing during the night.

If the snow would stick, that would be good. However, in these burned out foothills at an elevation of less than 3500 feet, we tend to have slush and cold rain instead of snow. That causes flash flooding and mudslides.

Please continue to pray as the local residents pack sandbags.

Breaking News:

Mudslide North of La Canada.

Angeles Crest Highway (Route 2), north of La Canada, has been hit with a major landslide which has trapped at least 60 people. Traffic to that area is closed.

State Route 2 has multiple landslides and is now closed to through traffic.

60 people are stuck in their vehicles.

Update - 90 people are trapped in their vehicles - not 60.

Route 2 is now closed indefinitely.

The emergency began around 3:15 PM PST.

45 people have been rescued according to the fire department.

Two task forces have been sent there to rescue the people.

In Action, people are walking out leaving their cars.

There have been no injuries reported.

No evacuation orders have been issued as this is forest area.
