I think the notion of Gaetz getting past the senate confirmation is still a bit premature (unless he can mend fences with some of the establishment GOP he annoyed with his little stunt to oust McCarthy)
However, it should be noted that Gaetz is a bit of an enigma when it comes to the initiatives he gets behind.
He actually does have some positions that resonate well with the left-leaning populists, too, and has had some "surprise votes" on key issues where he's either sided with the democrats (or even held positions to the left of a lot of them)
-He previously supported legislative measures to
break up Silicon Valley monopolies
-Supported regulating the online data broker industry
-He wouldn't accept corporate campaign money (only 1 of 61 members of the house, and the only house republican, to sign that pledge)
-Banning non-compete employment contracts
-Cutting certain arms supplies to Saudi Arabia
-Legalizing marijuana
-Supported AOC's initiative to end congressional stock trading
And in an interview with the WSJ, he once made the statement:
As the Republican Party becomes more working class, we need to be less captive to the neo libertarian view that everything big business does to people is OK, That means, the party can’t be harlots for big business and be the voice of the working class at the same time.
If he, in the capacity of AG, kept his job filtered through the lenses above... He could potentially end up doing some things that democrats find agreeable (even if they aren't crazy about his loyalty to Trump on some of the other issues)
