Well, the title of this thread pretty much spells it out. I'd like to meet some folks in my region who share my lifestyle. So if you're in the Pacific Northwest, more specifically Oregon, more specifically the Willamette Valley, then please, don't be shy! And if you're not, well shoot, say hi anyway. I realize there's already a thread similar to this one, but it was first posted nearly ten years ago.

It is better to cook cruciferous vegetables to reduce the risk of thyroid problems.

Although I can see where you're coming from, I don't think it's necessary. If I was going to eat broccoli, brussel sprouts, or cauliflower, then maybe I'd steam them. I just don't eat those three foods. As far as other leafy greens like kale or bok choi, even chard, I've never felt adverse affects from eating them as is. I guess it just comes down to preference, and the state of health within the individual making the decision. I've done a lot of fasting, and more recently a four month juice fast. This reset my entire body, cleaned out my gut and it seems more than ever that I can eat anything thats alive. The only times I struggle, ironically enough, are the moments I do it something cooked. I just think our bodies want food that's living and not cooked or roasted or fried to death. Food, like the truth of Jesus, is quite simple. No need to complicate it by excessive food combining, temperature settings and specific duration. Those are my thoughts for the moment, God bless.

Op, I'm quite close to a raw food vegan diet. I do cook cruciferous vegetables and lentils however. How do you get adequate protein intake in your diet? I'm guessing there are some things that you steam lightly right?

I cooked beans and lentils in an Instant Pot pressure cooker. I ate tempeh. I ate cooked whole grains: quinoa, corn and steel cut oats. I cooked cruciferous vegetables and spinach. I am not 100% vegan. I had some turkey at a Thanksgiving meal and about 4 ozs. canned sardines twice a week. I ate a veggie pizza some months, not every week. I am supposed to try to stay on a low-fat diet, no added sugar diet. I ate dried fruit and fresh fruit for sugar. I added olive oil to gluten free cornbread. I bought honey, but have not opened it. It is not easy to eat well.

Oats are great also. I use them to thicken things up. I tend to make soup by boiling veg to a pulp. This kills some of the nutrients, but I compensate for the heat sensitive stuff in other ways. I usually thicken the soup up with oats. Best method is to grind them in a coffee grinder and then add them in the last 5-10 minutes stirring to prevent them burning at the bottom of the pan. Coconut flour is another great alternative. It's high fat/high protein, so doble win there.

High fat is not good for the heart, especially saturated fat. Dr. Bernard said cholesterol in the blood stream increases risk of Alzheimer’s. He taught fat thickens the blood. Another doctor said fat/oil damages the arteries. Nuts, even peanuts, have protein and unsaturated fat. A study showed vegans who eat a handful of nuts a day lived longer than vegans who did not.

I chewed garlic cloves occasionally to lower my blood pressure. It was 128/74 today. I ate garlic that same hour. Eating legumes (beans and lentils) lowered my heart beat/pulse rate. Peas also have protein.

Please don't feed kids a raw diet... kids don't thrive on it. Otherwise, yes, adults can eat raw vegan. Though from what I see, they tend to be underweight.

Cruciferous vegetables are generally best steamed, you'll absorb more nutrients and it destroys some of the antinutrients. Carrots are also a food that are best steamed. Don't even think about eating potatoes raw, as they can be toxic.
