It depends on the context of the sentence.... or how the word is used etc.

shamefaced is rarely found in most bibles as the word has been replaced
by it's other meanings--modest, shamed/ashamed etc

There are many words that have different meanings... it depends on the context or the way it is
used.

For example: humble
Has more than one meaning or definition...

Humble: not proud or arrogant -

having
a feeling of insignificance, inferiority, subservience

being low in rank or status--lowly

being low in height or size

It's only translated once, in the bible as shamefacedness. A couple other times it's translated as "reverence" in Hebrews 12:28 for instance.

I found this however. Quite interesting: Aidos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently, aidos was a Greek goddess of shame and modesty. I never knew that!

"Aidos (Ancient Greek: Αἰδώς) was the Greek goddess of shame, modesty, and humility. Aidos, as a quality, was that feeling of reverence or shame which restrains men from wrong. It also encompassed the emotion that a rich person might feel in the presence of the impoverished, that wealth was more a matter of luck than merit."

Hmmm, so does this mean that a wealthy person is supposed to view their riches as "luck" (when there is no such thing) rather than a result of working hard, prosperity, etc.?

Not all wealthy people got their wealth by hard work...

The Lord gives the ability to prosper... what some folks do
with their "abundance" is down-right shameful...

Are you suspicious of all successful and well off people?

I hope you don't wear make up. Because that would not be "shamefaced".

Some people have a huge wardrobe of clothing, new clothing they never wear. What a waste, it can clothe the needy and those who are cold. And makeup is Egyptian cultural not Biblical. Christian women should not wear makeup IMHO.

God bless.

Why don't they teach the poor prosperity instead? You can give them things, but giving a man a fish will not feed him for a lifetime.

Christian women shouldn't wear make-up? Uh-oh... I smell another thread coming on...

BTW, so is embalming. So I assume you mean christians ought to not embalm their corpses, correct? Just clarifying.

Some people are poor due to mental and/or physical challenges. Many poor people want to work and feed themselves but are unable to due to mental damage or physical damage. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater MF.

I have read about embalming in Gen 50:3, but where in Bible does it say it's a practice that Christians should do? Can you please show me? Do you mean because Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father?

God bless.

Where in the bible does it say a Christian should use the internet, post on crappy message boards or drive cars? Nowhere. Guess that's out.

I guess people are incapable of thinking for themselves. I don't know why God gave (some people) a brain, since it's clear we're never supposed to USE them.

Cop out, sidestepping shuffle, no answer, silence in regard to my question, a run and hide strategy.

God bless.

I answered your post by pointing to another absurdity. If you cannot link the two, that is your problem.

In going back to the original topic of 'shamefacedness' one poster mentioned that its shy or bashful around men. The opposite would be brash/bold/brazen which is not a good quality for women with husbands or even women without husbands. I am friendly with other men, but I am not bold or flirtateous. I'm rather shy around other men actually, I am careful how I present myself to them. I think a huge temptation for women (of any age) is to be showy so that men can say 'hey thats a beautiful, sexy woman'. We want that, especially if we dont have our own man yet or if our man doesnt give us that sort of attention to details of our appearance. But it's no excuse, we arent meant to be brash and bold and trying to get mens attention. It's not just about the way we dress, it's about the attitude of the heart and in the way we speak as well.

*I'm I suspicious of all successful/well off people?

I'm speaking of the ones I know (I use to be in society circles)
Many of them(who I know) attained their wealth and or success by ungodly ways.

Make-up...
Even if I did wear make-up I would still be shamefaced (modest/decent)...because I wouldn't over use it or use the wrong colors(that don't compliment me) or put weird designs or occult symbols on my face with make-up--like I have seen on faces of the people who are into the "dark arts".

Besides...
People who wear too much make-up, not only is it unattractive-- too much make-up isn't good for the skin either.
