Joel Osteen to Produce Movie About Mary

My reaction to this movie idea:

He teaches a false gospel-- the message might bring people to Christ, however, its with a FALSE understanding of Jesus Christ, His ministry, and the crosses we are called to bear for Him. Many people have fallen away from Christianity when they don't end up having a lot of money and happiness.

It's a shame (and a sham) to fill up your own pockets on a ministry that promotes materialism and wealth. Some priests I know need to take heed of that message as well.

I remember the one movie of Mary where she was out spoken, loud, and feisty....
NOT at all like our Lady.
I cannot even remember the name of it, but like 2 scenes into the movie i shut it off.

do we not say "God gives good things to those who trust in Him"?
I am not familiar with the prosperity gospel but I have a basic idea of what it is, more based on the OT with a focus on worldly goods and big families

It's about money. It has nothing to do with big families. Protestants can contracept. God does want good things for us but it's tunnel vision towards money & materialism alone. All Christians should be stinking rich in their view. If not, your faith is at fault.

Doubtful that Holy Mary will be referred to in the movie as Theotokos or that the movie will show her assumption to heaven.

AND this is how atheists can be borne. They give up on God existing if He doesnt hand them everything hand and foot. They give up because it never seems that mustard seed size faith is really enough - so they let go.

Director James Foley will be helming the project, and Actress Camilla Belle got the lead role as Mary. The film is based on a script written by Benedict Fitzgerald and Barbara Nicolosi, both Catholics therefore it will probably approach the subject from this perspective. Benedict Fitzgerald co-wrote the script of Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ. Filming will be done in Morocco. The movie Mary Mother of Christ should be released sometime in 2012.

Preaching cultivation of an optimistic attitude as a way to overcome difficult circumstances is a good thing.

And this is what Joel Osteen does. He's more like Christian motivational speaker. He speaks about getting through life's hardships by seeking God.

I don't know what this "prosperity gospel" most in this thread keep harping on.

I have NEVER heard a pastor preach that God wants you to be rich with money and wordly goods. If one has, may God have mercy on them. What I have heard preached is that God made certain promises to His people, and He keeps them for His glory. Not everyone needs to suffer for Christ.

Christ suffered for us.
