I don't think Joel Osteen is the big story here. Benedict Fitzgerald, who also co-wrote The Passion of the Christ, wrote this screenplay. I'm glad Mr. Osteen can do something with his money...

Well... I hate to say it & I don't know this as fact but I'm sure he wouldn't mind making a buck or two off of it as well.

The prosperity gospel is indeed, another gospel imo.

However, it is a gospel that has brought many people to want to know Jesus. It should not be so easily discounted.

It may be spiritually elementary, but it's a beginning.

True until they realize Jesus is not vending machine Jesus.

It's not even elementary. It's another Gospel created by verses taken out of context.

The prosperity gospel is indeed another gospel. It is definitely not the true Gospel. I fear for those who actually believe in the prosperity gospel. Once they realize that it is not true and that God isn't going to make you rich just because you tithe or donate to some ministry they might lose faith.

I am intrigued that Osteen is taking Mary, who is often virtually ignored in most Protestant churches, and basing a movie around her. Good for him! No wonder why he attracts huge crowds.

I have seen several fundamentalist musical productions in Branson. They're like docudramas. They're storytelling, plain and simple. Narrative stories that don't get into issues of dogma--straight from the Bible.

What's not to like?

Yes. I've met quite a few.

That is very sad. If they had correct beliefs to begin with, they probably wouldn't have lost faith in God. That is just my own personal opinion though and I could be wrong.

There is a problem with esteeming men over Scripture & truth in certain sectors in in the protestant belief system. They pick up books by a favorite minister, etc. They run with that because it tickles the ears. Read the Scripture directed to them at Services, etc. Then become disappointed & angry when the formula of seed faith does not seem to be working in the area of a harvest in their lives.

It wears them down because the answer always seems to be directed at their lack of faith.

i never tought of it that way before
do we not say "God gives good things to those who trust in Him"?
I am not familiar with the prosperity gospel but I have a basic idea of what it is, more based on the OT with a focus on worldly goods and big families
thank you for helping me rethink this issue

It is good to cultivate optimism whether you believe in the prosperity gospel or not.

Optimism is good for your health, wealth, and happiness. No matter what your challenges or circumstances, optimism will help you to deal with them better and often overcome them.

No, it is not foolproof. It doesn't come with a tithe-back guarantee.

Like the man sitting by the pool in Bethesda, we need to use our own initiative if we want to achieve our goals, or experience minor miracles.

Preaching cultivation of an optimistic attitude as a way to overcome difficult circumstances is a good thing.
