Jesus said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” – OSAS is true.

The Lord Jesus Christ promised the saved that He will never leave them.

Hebrews 13:5
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

So the saved could never go to hell. If they did, Jesus Christ would still be with them and would be in hell forever. That emphatic and absolute promise, without condition, shows that once saved always saved is true.

“I” – Jesus Christ, God Almighty, who has the power to do whatever He promises and would never lie.

“will” – A promise by Jesus Christ, who has the power to do whatever He promises and would never lie.

“never” – that guarantees from that moment on for ever and ever. When will never happen? Never

“Leave thee” – will always be with thee.

“nor forsake thee” – A saved person in hell would have been forsaken. But Jesus Christ promised He would never forsake thee.

Sorry. That can't be. Salvation is a covenant relationship, and covenants can be broken. Exodus 31:16 shows the principle of covenant keeping and covenant breaking.

Covenant keepers are blessed. Covenant breakers are cursed.

This is what the Last Judgment is all about -- those who are covenant keepers are blessed and received eternal life for their covenant keeping, and those who have broken covenant with Christ are cursed. (John 5: 28-29, Romans 2: 5-10, Matthew 25: 31-43)

Now you can keep on believing in your unscriptural "faith alone" viewpoint of OSAS, and I guarantee you , based on the Bible, you are going to be one very surprised puppy when you find yourself at the Judgment Seat with all the other folks there, both the righteous and the wicked.

BTW -- Jesus' promise is a promise of covenant fidelity. He will never break His covenant vows to us, but that does not mean that all who are ever brought into covenant with Him will do the same.

You read entirely too much into the scriptures that is not there and that violates covenant principles.

Jesus wont forsake us but we can forsake him.

Once saved always saved is guaranteed by God Almighty. Jesus Christ perfectly fulfills the Father's will.

John 6:39-40
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

You must be mistaken because there is no condition on the promise from Jesus Christ.

You do not understand what a covenant is. A covenant is a relationship and as with all relationships, either party can forsake it. The promise that Christ will never violate His oaths and vows of fidelity to us does not mean that we will not walk away from Him.

Do you know what it is when one party keeps the other party against that second party's will?

It is called SLAVERY.

We are not slaves. The Bible analogizes our relationship with Christ as husband and wife. The Bible shows the covenant as marriage (Ezekial 16:8).

Learn to study the Bible and put in to practice the use of analogies and metaphors and you will not make such mistakes nor be led astray by "Bible teachers" who don't have the common sense of a goat.

The promise is made by Jesus Christ and is unconditional and absolutely for sure.

Eternal Security or Once Saved Always Saved is Absolutely True. The Holy Bible has many verses or passages that prove this. Here are just a few. There are many more.

Jesus Christ who is God said:

John 6:47
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

If someone has everlasting life, then they could never be damned. If not, they did not have everlasting life but potentially had everlasting life. The verse would say, “might have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ, who is God, would not lie especially with the double verily.

Jesus also said:

John 3:14-18
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Verse 15 and 16 say the same thing and by the same logic prove eternal security. Both also emphatically claim, “should not perish” which again proves eternal security. In verse 18, Jesus Christ says that they are not condemned. All again prove eternal security.

Jesus Christ also said:

John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

In verse 26, Jesus Christ said that they shall never die. Surely you believe God.

Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, wrote:

Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

If your sealed till the day of redemption, you could not be damned.

Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

The saved have already been raised and already sit in heavenly places.

Ephesians 2:5-7
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

In the following verse, Jesus says He is with the saved and will never leave them. How could they ever go to hell?

Hebrews 13:5
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Jesus Christ also said the following. Since the Holy spirit is with the saved for ever, the saved could never go there, because the Holy Spirit would have to go there to..

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Jesus Christ the Lord also said:

John 10:28-30
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.

If someone has “eternal life,” then they could never be damned. If not, they did not have eternal life but potentially had eternal life. Jesus Christ, who is God, would not lie. Again Jesus Christ is emphatic that “they shall never perish.” Obviously no man can pluck them out of Jesus’ hand or His Father’s hand.

The apostle John wrote the following. How can you know that you have eternal life if it is only a maybe?

1 John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The next passage, written by Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, says, “are saved,” not might be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Potentially damned could not be salvation as written by Paul in the following passage.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

The following words spoken by Jesus Christ again prove once saved always saved.

John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Before the rapture, for those that are saved by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, there are only 2 possibilities and only one outcome. If they die before the rapture, they get a glorified body and are forever with the Lord. If they are alive at the rapture, they get a glorified body and are forever with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The above sampling absolutely proves that eternal security (once saved always saved) is absolutely true. They are emphatic and quite clear. Since the Holy Bible has no contradictions, anything that you think shows otherwise is just your mistaken interpretation. Many people assume a passage is talking about salvation/damnation when it is not. This is usually done by taking the verse out of context, assuming meanings of words with false definitions and doctrines, ignoring what salvation really means, or by not rightly dividing the word of truth (see 2 Timothy 2:15) They may be confusing statements made to a different people, for a different time, about a different subject. They may even be using a new Bible version with a corrupt reading.

From the above, we are assured by God Almighty the Saviour that if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are saved forever. Those that are saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His shed blood have all their sins paid for by that blood. They have all their sins forgiven by faith in His atoning blood. God will not remember their sins. Therefore, no passage of damnation or condemnation applies to those saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

So if OSAS is true...how does this help me? I mean, it's great knowing in the abstract, that a person who is truly saved (has truly repented and trusted in the Lord) is saved forever, never to fall.

But how do I know, that my faith right here and right now, is true faith? The flipside of OSAS is "Those who seemed to believe and walked the walk for a while, but eventually fell away, were never really saved to begin with."

So how can I know today, that I one day will not be among those whose faith was never real to begin with?

Regardless, I still don't get why people fight so stridently over this issue. To me it makes little practical difference. I take comfort in God's promises never to leave his Church. I take heed of the warnings to check myself, and never fall into complacency.

There are 2 reasons why believing that OSAS is true is important.

First, there are some who promote that salvation is something that is earned by works. The doctrine of once saved always saved is part of the defense against that false doctrine of earning salvation.

Secondly, once saved always saved does give reassurance to the saved so that they can rejoice in their salvation and serve God out of love.

It is true that some who are saved and believe OSAS to be true, do fall into a life of complacency. That will not work out for that person in this life. Although we are saved forever, God certainly wants the saved to do good works and follow His commandments.

1 Corinthians 3:15
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

It is also true that once saved always saved only applies to those that have actually been saved. That is why it is important to know what the gospel of salvation is and to trust in what Jesus Christ has done in shedding His blood for our sins.

The bible tells us that salvation without works is worthless. For how can we be an example of the living testimony of Christ if we do not act as Christ in our communities?

You can't work to be saved, that is by God's grace. But those who have the Holy Spirit living inside them are compelled to work on behalf of Christ because Christ's goodness works on behalf of people. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24)

It is silly, all this arguing about the doctrine of eternal salvation.

I've read through this thread, not all because there are a huge number of posts and pages. But I have read over many of the pages and I noticed references to Calvinism. And that being used to refute eternal salvation.

That Calvin reference simply mistakes the TULIP of Calvinism. The error is thinking Calvin, who was an attorney first, imagined the last point of his false doctrine; Perseverance of the Saints. "A child of God once saved cannot be lost".
But that is wholly related to the third TULIP point. "Limited Atonement". That God has a 'master list' of those who he predestined for salvation before the creation of the world. And that our Lord Jesus did not die to save the world but only those on that list.

John 6:44 gave John Calvin the idea, as an attorney turned minister, that an omniscient creator would create through predestination all people to be born in sin and plan to save only a few on his 'list' from damnation. While sending his son to die on the cross to seal the deal. Only the elect prior to their being born would be saved once they were. And that means those others God willed to life God predetermined would live as sinners, and die condemned.

That makes John 3:16 a misprint, according to John! And attorney Calvin acting from the mind of a prosecutor. No wonder he was fond of the pyre as punishment for those in this life. Forewarning those who watched, and those who roasted of their destiny when they were not on that list of that third TULIP point. (Limited Atonement)
That is what Calvin taught. That's why people make the mistake of thinking eternal salvation was only taught in church starting in the 16th century.
How absurd! That makes Jesus words to arrive 15 centuries than they actually did when they were spoken from his own lips.
Those who argue the Calvin doctrine and claim eternal salvation can be lost are so aligned against Calvanism that they don't realize they're condemning Christ in the process.

Imagine what is being proposed here when people think people can fall from the hand of Jesus Christ who suffered torture and then was nailed to the cross of Calvary so as to take the sins of the world upon himself and fulfill John 3:16.

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

I'm throwing this out there and then I'm leaving this thread. The rage that is bubbling in this thread tells me it will be closed soon. In fact I'm astonished it has remained active this many pages.

<snip>

The parable of the prodigal son is a lovely read. I recommend it for those type people.
Luke 15:11-31

People can walk away from God. But the loving father always welcomes them home. The elder brother in that parable, he is symbolic of those self-righteous individuals who are bitter and angry at the idea that the father has always had a place in his heart for those who stray and follow the world and then return back to his love. His abode. Their eternal security insured by the loving welcome of the eternal father.

Give God more credit than to think what he offers and that is freely received by us can be snatched away due to something we elect to do. As if we can revoke our all knowing father's gift after he sent his son to die so that the world may come to be saved.

We were fallen in the first place. If we could lose our salvation our Omniscient Omnipresent Omnipotent father wouldn't have made a covenant, and we know what covenant is defined as, that saved us from death through the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The false doctrine of of losing our salvation is a lie.
Just like any decent parent God too chastises his children when they stray (
Hebrews 12:6-8)

2 Timothy 2:13
if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
There is no stipulation or condition put on that. The apostle Paul was very clear.

Now, I'm leaving this thread. May peace descend on the hearts who enter and contribute to this discussion. This is a community dedicated to the Lord Jesus.
Where two or more are gathered in his name there too is he. Would you all behave like this in a room where Jesus was present and listening to every word and watching you all?

Because this may be the net and a tiny little community in the midst of cyberspace, but far more than two are gathered here in Jesus name. And he is watching!

Do you make him proud? In this Christians only domain for discussion? Or do you make him pity you for your rage as you defend his word and truth, or attack his promise and covenant?

God knows. :groupray:

You do not understand what a covenant is. A covenant is a relationship and as with all relationships, either party can forsake it. The promise that Christ will never violate His oaths and vows of fidelity to us does not mean that we will not walk away from Him.

Read about God when He made His covenant with Abraham.
God puts Abraham to sleep and tells him the truth of what will happen after him.
Then God by Himself walks through the split animal carcasses, signifying to all that God himself is the guarantee that this covenant God establishes can not be broken. We are of that same covenant promise that God made to Abraham, for we are children of the promise that God made to Abraham.

God did not allow Abraham to walk with God between the carcasses because God knows that man cannot keep the covenant, and also for the glory of God to do this by Himself. For now the effectual working of that wonderful covenant is upon Him to perform it, and not upon man.

This covenant of God is to have faith in God and God's promises, believing what God has said and precedes the giving of the LAW. Now we also have faith in God and the gospel of His Son and the promises of God in like manner as God established with Abraham, as He is the only one worthy to fulfill it, the burden of it being upon His person to perform and uphold the duties and responsibilities and not ours using our works.

Augustine (354-430): Of such says the apostle, “We know that to those that love God He worketh together all things for good, to them who are called according to His purpose; because those whom He before foreknew, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren. Moreover, whom He did predestinate, them He also called; and whom He called, them He also justified; and whom He justified, them He also glorified.” Of these no one perishes, because all are elected. And they are elected because they were called according to the purpose — the purpose, however, not their own, but God’s; of which He elsewhere says, “That the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of Him that calleth, it was said unto her that the elder shall serve the younger.” And in another place he says, “Not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace.” When, therefore, we hear,” Moreover, whom He did predestinate, them He also called,” we ought to acknowledge that they were called according to His purpose; since He thence began, saying, “He worketh together all things for good to those who are called according to His purpose,” and then added, “Because those whom He before foreknew, He also did predestinate, to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren And to these promises He added, “Moreover, whom, He did predestinate, them He also called.” He wishes these, therefore, to be understood whom He called according to His purpose, lest any among them should be thought to be called and not elected, on account of that sentence of the Lord’s: “Many the called but few are elected.” For whoever are elected are without doubt also called; but not whosoever are called are as a consequence elected. Those, then, are elected, as has often been said, who are called according to the purpose, who also are predestinated and foreknown. If any one of these perishes, God is mistaken; but none of them perishes, because God is not mistaken. If any one of these perish, God is overcome by human sin; but none of them perishes, because God is overcome by nothing.

<edit>

In order to have a covenant, BOTH SIDES MUST PERFORM THE COVENANT RITUAL. There is no such thing as a person making covenant vows for another. None.

God made His covenant vows here. Do you know what it meant when He walked through the split halves of the animals? It was a self-maledictory oath. All covenants are made with self-maledictory oaths. The covenant between God and man is no exception.

In the self-maledictory oath, God is saying to all who are witness, which in this case would be the heavenly powers, that if He should fail to keep this oath and/or covenant promise to Abraham, may He be torn asunder as these animals.

When Abraham made his covenant, the ritual he did was saying "If I do not keep my oath before you, may I be cut off and severed from the Kingdom as as this piece of flesh is being severed from me now."

In a covenant, both sides make oaths and both are expected to keep them. There is no such thing as one party making an oath for the other and then keeping the oath for the other.

I think what's needed is an explanation of what happens to a believer who becomes an Atheist.

The person used to believe, but doesnt anymore, so, does the whole, OSAS thing apply to such a person...

If intellectual belief is the only requirement and OSAS is true, then it follows that "once a person believes they can never not believe"
OBAB yields OSAS, but OBAB cant possibly be true.

Furthermore I think I asked you a question a while back which you didn't address,

I used to believe in OSAS, but still sinned, somewhat often, and you would say I was saved right?

Next question, I am still saved, in my current belief that sin puts people in danger of hellfire?

Although, I do indeed believe that (faith) pistis is what is required, and pistis, certainly does have it's implications, "faithfulness". Which unfortunately seems to have been lost by those who operate merely off of english translations with preconceived ideas which fall short of what the greek language portrays.

Btw, I dont really care too much for a response, I can imagine it would be another one of your copy paste lists, saying, "never leave or forsake"... while you dismiss everything I say

OSAS only applies if a person is at one time saved.
As to a saved person becoming an atheist, do you know of any in scripture?
There is none that I no of.

If you were to give an example from outside of scripture, you would have to prove that the person was actually once saved. I do not think that you can do that. People lie. An infiltrator trying to push false doctrine would certainly do that.
Certain beliefs are not enough to be saved. I have a topic called "what does it mean to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ" on the Apologetics forum that describes what is saving faith. So any example that you give could just be a person who was never saved.

You at one time believed in OSAS, but you were still sinning. While the "new man" that Paul wrote about in Ephesians 4:24 will not sin because it "is created in righteousness and true holiness", the flesh can still sin as Paul describes himself, while saved and in the present tense, in Romans 7:14-25.

Now you say that you do not believe in OSAS. I believe that a person who was saved can be led to believe another gospel (see 2 Corinthians 11:1-4, Galatians 1, and Acts 20). That saved person does not lose their salvation, but they are now believing another gospel. Of course it is possible that the person was never really saved as I described above.

BTW, I answer with scripture a lot because that is the only absolute truth that we possess. In the last days it says people will not endure sound doctrine. Scripture is sound doctrine.

But Jesus Christ promised He would never forsake thee.

it is at least so that the true Saints will be most perfectly saved in the subsequent series of eternities, because here is how at least some of them till now suffered here in this world - even the Lord Himself, but Their sufferings were little and short (as) compared to the sufferings of the antichrists

1 Peter 5:8-10 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you."

Blessings
