As Christians we are taught to forgive, and when someone strikes you to turn the other cheek. Jesus told us to love our enemies.
I understand this in principle, and the challenge is applying this to our daily life.
I grew up watching Star Wars Episode IV, V and VI as a kid and has star wars movies, toys, books, etc -- maybe not a die-hard fan but I loved those movies as much as anyone. Those 3 movies had action, and were sci-fi; although there were humorous portions or situations, the funny scenes were done in a way to not distract from the over-all movie and it was .... how do describe ... moderately mature humour!?!?

Then years later Lucas decides to create Episodes I, II and III. Millions of fans had waited years for these films.
He inserts Jar Jar Binks into Episode I and ... it was simply beyond horrible.
I simply cannot believe that ANYONE other than perhaps very young children would find that character in any way amusing - in fact Bink's entire race knocked out the 'realism' of the Star Wars universe Lucas had created - the movies became a joke.
I can only assume that these abominations (Episode I, II, III) were filmed this way because perhaps when the idea of the Binks character was proposed, the people working with Lucas were largely 'yes' men and would simply agree with and promote ANY idea that Lucas had, instead of pulling him by the ear when he suggested something as ridiculous as Binks.

Lord help me find the strength to forgive Lucas for putting Jar Jar Binks in Episode I (as well as the hissy-fit anorexic kid that played Anakin/young Vader) this even though he sold the franchise to Disney. Lord have mercy on his soul.

I also pray that when we are in Heaven Lucas will destroy and re-film Episodes I, II and III properly.

funny - when you read about how by Episode III Jar Jar's role had been reduced to 2 scene and only 2 words - so Lucas was scrambling to react to the huge dissapointment of star wars fans ... too late ...
From wiki:
Possibly as a result of fan hostility, Jar Jar's role in Attack of the Clones made him a pivotal part of the story, as the one who inadvertently helped Palpatine lay the foundations of the Galactic Empire, while minimizing his screen time.[7] His role in Revenge of the Sith was further reduced to two scenes and only two words.[28]

ok Strathos - here's a nerdy question for you -- have you seen 'Logan's Run' from the 70's?? if so are you a fan of that movie/series !?!?

You didn't ask me, but I love Logan's Run. I've seen both the movie and the television series. I regard myself as a fan.

This was back in the days where dystopia meant that computers would control society and watch your every move. Hey, wait a minute...

ya -- I love the original Logan's Run ... very cool movie ... they are supposed to be working on a remake but they have been saying that for years ... if you google Logan's Run remake I believe they just recently (onece again) announced in June that they will be working on this movie ... soon ...

on a very sad note ... when you watch that movie all the actors are young and in their prime ... since then Farrah has died and the actor that played Francis - Logan's partner also died ...

Mesa no lika da binks!
Ya ... mesa thinks no one lika da binks.

Look at the original 3 star wars movies.
The ewoks and the jawa's were funny ... but they were more like an innocent under-developed humanoid trying to defend themselves with primitive means kinda funny.
Binks was trying to be funny talking in pig-latin ... I think he said 'okey-day' !?!?!?!!!??
How could Lucas have thought 'okey-day' is something funny to say? I understand that there is an audience that may crack a smile at that or even laugh. And that audience will also split a gut and have tears streaming down their cheeks if you cup your hand in your armpit and make farting noises ... and imho Lucas pretty much inserted the hand-armpit-fart joke into his franchise ...

The Jawas were cool, but I couldn't stand the Ewoks. I would have greatly preferred the earlier concept (as I understand it) that this would have been the Wookie planet.

Why on earth would you bother to post this at all?!!?!?

Because I used to like it when I was younger. As for bothering, why not? If Jar Jar Binks 'ruined Star Wars forever' for someone, why can't I post here as well eh? Repetition is what killed it for me.

Jar Jar is just one symptom of everything that's wrong with the prequel trilogy. Personally, I simply ignore anything aside from the original trilogy, whether it's gungans, midichlorians or some non-characters shambling through CGI-environments.
