The veteran Democratic operative has been married to former GOP strategist Mary Matalin for over 31 years

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has advice for young progressives struggling to find love in the current political landscape.

Carville had a lot to say about the viral moment from Netflix's reality dating show "Love is Blind" where contestant Sara Carton left her groom Ben Mezzenga at the altar for not totally aligning with her progressive politics.

"Since the dawn of time, everybody has tried to explain romance," Carville told Fox News Digital."Poems, art, novels. And you know what? No one's quite got it yet. And that's the great thing about it. And I don't think anyone will ever get it… If Shakespeare can't explain romance, how the hell can I explain romance?"

“And so what these shows do is they try to say there's something to a relationship other than romance," he continued, later adding "You can't change people's mind, all right? They're either romantic or they love someone, or they don't."

Continued below.

Carvile is a senile old man who shouldn't be giving young people advice. It's a different world. Political differences now days often reflect real differences in fundamental values. And most successful relationships require people to agree on values.

The GOP 30-40 years ago was a very different party than today's. Most Republicans were relatively moderate and oriented around a very different ideology. Donald Trump was just an oafish billionaire nobody but rubes took too seriously outside of business, and most people agreed Pat Buchanan was odious, ignorant, and bigoted, whether or not they were Republicans or Democrats. Today, Trump takes up all of his talking points.

Never heard of him? People can be married with different political views, you know?

He was the campaign strategist for Bill Clinton in the 1990's. He came up with the phrase, "It's the economy, stupid".

I'm not really a fan of his triangulation politics strategy, which has clearly been a long term disaster for Democrats. I never voted for Clinton and I really didn't like him and considered him fundamentally dishonest and unethical (I voted for Perot once), but I did vote for Gore just because I thought George W. Bush was a fool and an idiot, and history really hasn't proven me wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Oh. Considering I was a toddler when Clinton was in office, that explains why I didn’t hear of him.

Thanks

The GOP hasn't really moved that much. They have gone more populist and isolationist, but there hasn't been a fundamental change in the platform or ideology

the Democratic Party has gone hard-left, or even extremist left. The social platform of Democrats involves minors getting gender-reassignment surgeries, kiddie drag shows, transgenderism, open-borders socialism, and even military adventurism (go figure). The party is militantly anti-Christian

this is why the Democrats got destroyed in the November elections--not because Trump is some magician who "fooled the public". But because their platform was awful, their candidate was dangerously unqualified, and clowns are running the show

now you will protest, and I will say: look at the election results, the polling on issues, etc. --the American public is NOT supportive of the current incarnation of the Democratic Party

That simply isn't true. While Democrats come from diverse religious backgrounds, many Democrats are Christians.

yes, some Democrats are Christian

but only 14% of Evangelical Protestants are Democrats.

37% of white Catholics are Democrats, which is higher than other denominations.

the only group that is largely Christian within the Democratic Party is black females.

Most Democrats have contempt for Christians

Evangelical Protestants aren't the whole of Protestants in the US. Many belong to either older Mainline denominations, or smaller Confessional bodies not aligned with Evangelicalism.

I simply don't see that reflected in reality.

Take Democrat representation in Congress, for instance. Most Democrats in the House and Senate are either Jews or Christians, with only a handful belonging to other minority religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, or Islam. A few are non-religious, but most aren't.

I wasn't speaking about Jews or Muslims

a vast majority of Jews are Democrats. Most Muslims are as well.
