Is "www" in Hebrew equal to 666?

I tend to think the number of the beast, i.e. 666, is a metaphor rather than a literal number. The question is what is the metaphor.

I would imagine that the same "key" to understanding the meaning behind God's number also unlocks the meaning behind the devil's number.

All I know for sure is that 7 is the number of completion, and 6 is the number of man.

But we need to remember that "Six hundred sixty and six" wasn't written by sensationalists and conspiracy theorists. It was part of a visionary experience the apostle John had, which we accept as the Word of God.

Re 13:17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

Re 14:11 ...whoever receives the mark of his name.

Re 15:2 ...those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name.

(From Strong's definitions -- number can also mean multitudes, and name can mean whatever is represented under a name.)



Other times 666 was used in the Bible--
Ezra 2, within a listing of the Israelites who came out of Babylonian captivity, to show the number of the sons of Adonikam.

What do you think about other older fragments found of the Book of Revelation, that say the number of the beast is six hundred and sixteen? Do you think this was just a scribe error, since the early church didn't dispute Johns writing that we know of? And would the change in the number be of any significance?

I'm not sure about this myself, but I'm sure that our vicar told us - many years ago - that seven is also the number of perfection, God's number. Man's number is 6 because we have fallen short of perfection. If this is the case, then could 666 not just be a way of saying that this being will be fully and only man - maybe without a spirit or conscience; someone who is utterly incapable of being open to God, or who has chosen to fight against him?
I don't even know that such a thing is possible, as all humans were created by God in his image, so that may not be correct - just throwing out an idea.
