The point I was trying to make is that it is kosher or unkosher depending on your faith. You don't need anyone making that decision for you. The Holy Spirit can guide you into the right view according to your faith.

Kosher is not defined by faith, it is defined by the Torah, what HaShem has to say about it.

About the Tuna

Here is an article to help know what supervision is given nowadays

For canned tuna, look for a hecksher, same with frozen. If you don't know what fresh tuna lookes like I would stay away from fresh in the market unless it is also certified.

Bumblebee is kosher, even chunk light
Chicken of the Sea
Even the flavored pouch varieties now have certification and are good, hot or cold.

When I lived in China, tracking down kosher food was tough, expensive and a real problem. Beijing was so-so, but the rest of the place was very hard.

Yeah that's the thing with China. Chinese stuff is dirt cheap but anything "foreign" is ridiculously expensive.

Zhilan - I apologize because I just heard something tonight about animals eating other animals and Kosher and I thought of your question but I didn't take notes. :( I'll try to email the fellow and ask him what it was about again. He agreed with you in a way but had a good explanation as to why Kosher isn't defined that way.

Thanks! That would be great!

Lulav, your link isn't working on this end..

I don't know why, when I click on it (http://http//www.kosherspirit.com/Article.asp?Issue=3&Article=41) from here it gives me a problem too but this is the link, maybe because for some odd reason it duplicated the http?

http://www.kosherspirit.com/Article.asp?Issue=3&Article=41

It looks the same to me, yet when I click on the one above it brings me to the page.

Just do a google search on kosher tuna and it's the second one down, it is called
The Kosher Spirit - Tishrei 5764/Fall 2003 - Fine Tuning Tuna

Maybe this will work?

I checked it , the one above that says tishrei 5764 in it will take you there. ( Stupid computers :))

The latest edition of Kosher Spirit has an interesting
article on "a comprehensive analysis of frequent
kosher concerns vis-a-vis fish"...it's pretty basic,
but it's an interesting read and helpful for someone
who isn't aware of some of the halachah regarding
fish. It even mentions tuna... here's the online
edition:
