My definition of a Christian band is not only Christian's in a band, but Christ centered lyics. Going by that definition, POD is not a Christian band. However, their albums Snuff the Punk(1st) and Brown(2nd) were Christian albums. Everything since has merely been "Positivity dude". LOL.
So they use to be a Christian band.

Their 3 past CD's have had jsut as much scripture as the others, just not so direct to turn people off aka bible thumping.

 If you are a true christian, why would you dream of being on the Howard Stern show? I believe there are bands out their that claim to be christian bands and sing about a higher power but tell me what higher power are they singing about? I don't care how many christians are in that band if they are not singing about our Lord and Savior they are not a christian band.

To reach out to lost like all the other places they go that some Christians seem to think they shouldn't.

I strongly disagree. They were not anywhere near as Christ centered on those albums. You need to read the lyric sheets in comparison and it is obvious. The first two were practically Gospel albums. Those last few albums have a few songs that are vaguely "spiritual" and you could link those to any religion.
And why would they want to tone it down to keep from offending people? Years ago, around the time before the Brown release, and shortly before their sighning with Atlantic Records. They would swing through my town at least a few times a year. Now back then, you could actually aproach the band members and talk, pray with them. They were very accomodating to their fans. I remember a conversation were they talked about how Rage Against the Machine was brought up, and how they had similar sound and such (even though I always thought they were far apart soundwise ) they were from the same area and would often play the same venues down in SoCal. Well, Rage was already big-time and wanted POD to do a leg of the current tour with them as long as they toned down the Jesus lyrics. But They wanted nothing to do with it, cause they were not going to compromise the Gospel. Something happened to this band shortly after this, and what happened was compromise. They changed their style of play, they secularized the lyrics, and they became a part of the world.
You go to concert now, and all you get is a "rockstar" performance with smoke and lights and they dont pray, they dont talk about Jesus, and you cannot even get near their bus, much less them. My brother was a friend to all those guys, they knew him by name. The last time they were here, my brother was not allowed to go and talk to them. But thats not what gets me. What gets me is the compromise.
Now I know this is going to make some folks mad cause Ive gotten into it dozens of times about POD. People tend to have a blind love if they like a band. Dont make excuses for them, If you like their music, more power to you, your not damning your soul if you listen to the newer stuff, but wipe the scales from your eyes.
All Im saying is that they use to be sold out for Christ, and there is no evidence of that now. And you dont have to have ever known them to tell, just listen to the albums, but with objectivity.

Why do they have to be all preachy and always mention God to be good Christians. You're not going to reach many new people that way. Some christian bands are from strengthing the troops, others are for gaining new ones. I'm not saying you have to like them. If gospel type music if more your thing fine, but that type of music annoys non-christians. If this post doesn't make any sense sorry. :sorry:

I was not saying that they "had" to be preachy. There was a statement made that they are just as much a "Christian band" today as ever. I was merely giving evidence that they are in fact not. The only way to "reach" people is to reach out to people. They have not done that for a long time. I listen to everything from hardcore metal to jazz. Mostly Christian artists but also some secular. If POD started from the getgo being vaguely "spiritual" like they are now, and I found out they were Christians playing music for a living, I would have respect for them. However, I know better.
I do not hate those guys, and I dont knock anyone who likes them. I love the guys in POD, and pray for them. I dont listen to the music anymore cause the style has changed drastically for my own taste, and there is a personal connection to boot. When I saw this thread I just had to let everyone know about my own experience, and to refute the fact they are a "Christian band".

If POD is playing their music for God then yes I believe they are a Christian band. On the other hand I think if they were christians, although its not for me to judge, it seems that they wouldnt hold back from telling everyone about Salvation because music is a way to worship God but how do you worship God when you dont know him. There are people going to their shows that are non christians and they dont hear the gospel message which POD, if they are Christians, are responsible for telling everyone. Honestly im sick and tired of bands claiming to be christians but not in a christian band, i mean what is up with that? Just because your not on a christain record label doesnt mean you cant classify yourself as a christian band. I know, I supposedley go to christian shows all the time but hear nothing about God or Jesus and its just like going to a regular secular rock show. Whats the point of playing a show if you are not doing it to glorify God. There is no point and people that go to these shows need to hear the word of God and if they are not hearing it was is the point of the concert?
