Is lucid dreaming from satan?

I have had some christian friends say yes.And others no.What does the bible say about it?

Lucid dreams are about out of body experiences that resemble memories of an in body experience.

"I know someone in Christ who, fourteen years ago (whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows), was caught up to the third heaven." 2 Corinthians 12:2

The bible doesn't specify with the term "lucid dream" but it does have plenty of examples of God giving people vivid dreams and visions for a specific purposes. Visions seem more frequent, but people have had dreams as well. God had given Pharaoh a dream of a famine coming upon the land of Egypt and in turn, he gave Joseph the gift of interpreting dreams. This all was set in play to fulfil God's bigger plan for the people of Israel.

In Numbers 12:6 God said this: "And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream."

John who wrote the book of Revelations was given an incredibly strong vision by God on the Island of Patmos in order to write the final book of the Bible. Which in turn, was the final revelation warning the church of the things that must come to pass before Jesus's return.

It seems a lot of people still have dreams and visions today. I've heard many such testimonies. In fact, many muslims during Ramadan, while they are seeking God with their whole heart report having very vivid dreams and visions of Jesus coming to them, telling them He is the only True God. It's really amazing to hear of God working in this way today.

All in all, I wouldn't focus too much on dreams and visions. If the Lord gives you one, then it seems to me that you would have no doubt it was from the Lord. Some people ask God for them, but I would rather have one naturally like how those in the Bible experienced them. We shouldn't be seeking after a sign, but walking our walk out in faith.

Can satan give someone dreams? I don't know but I don't think so unless someone were to involve themselves with new age practices or toy with anything occult. That's how you invite demonic influences into your life and I highly caution you stay away from these things.

The Bible doesn't speak about different kinds of dreams as men have labeled them.

In most dreams, you don't know that you are dreaming until you wake up. In "lucid" dreams, you realize that you are dreaming during the dream. Both are natural phenomena.

There are three sources for dreams:

1. natural, including "wet" dreams,
2. prophetic or
3. demonic.

They are determined by their content, not whether they are "lucid" or not.

(Unless you have a different definition for a "lucid" dream...)

The bible doesn't mention lucid dreams. Lucid dreams come from your own mind. Do not allow your friends to cause you to cross the line between religion and superstition.

If lucid dreaming is when the person is aware they are dreaming, here's a few examples of them carrying on conversations with God.

"In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David..." I Kings 3:4-5

As did "But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife. 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?" Can read the account in Gen 20

"And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I." Gen 30

"For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction," Job 33:14-16 Some dreams are from God.

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams." Acts 2:17

There's about 20 dreams and 20 visions in Scripture.

Are our dreams from God? Everything God does has a purpose. Usually it's a good idea to write the dream adding as many details as we can recall. Note how the dream affected us. If it was upsetting, we need God's peace. Then pray while reading the dream. Resouces are Scripture and Bible dictionaries. Even though details are important, what is the focus overall.

Note: I would exercise caution and ask God for protection. You only want what's from Him.

I would reject dividing dreams like that and categorizing them in that manner. It seems to me such a distinction is laying some groundwork for the argument that the physical brain is solely responsible for our consciousness. That mankind is quiet good at imagining that a fictitious spirit world exists and there is no real place where spirit beings inhabit.

There is an overlap of study a number of academics have noticed. The use of DMT to induce clinical out of body experiences in a lab and the study of various religious practices around the world that have similar effects. Those cultures likewise are able to induce altered states of perception with or without drugs. World wide we have cultures where it's all about communing spiritually with very real spirit beings.

I don't buy that consciousness is the product of our physical brains. I see our brains as being an interface between our soul and our body (analogous to a programmable controller).

But I have seen no assertion anywhere that "lucid" dreaming is anymore supernatural in origin than conventional dreaming. (That is what the OP was asking about.)

The Bible has numerous stories where God speaks to his people through dreams (and they may have been lucid dreams), but there doesn't seem to be any instances where Satan does the same.

Now some may argue that demons can influence dreams, but as @Sabertooth points out, one should discern the sources of their dreams from the content (i.e. what the dreams are trying making them think/feel/do? does it build us up in the faith, or does it lead us to the opposite direction?), rather than its "lucidity".

Here is what the bible says about it:
"25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof."

"And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."

It is best not to judge and not to even ask questions if your conscience can be swayed by the opinions of others.

For once you start to believe that it is wrong......from you, it will become a sin..

Lucid dreaming is just exerting greater control and consciousness over what our minds do when we're asleep. Its like teetering on the verge of consciousness. I'm sure that Satan could influence those dreams just as he can influence most other things, but its certainly not from Satan in any way. Even if the Bible doesn't mention lucid dreaming, that doesn't discount it or mean that its a product of evil influence. Just be discerning about what you see and what you believe as a result.

Like others have said, in theory Satan could influence it but it's not inherently evil. I wouldn't recommend most people to practice lucid dreaming though unless they have a lot of nightmares. If you do have nightmares, like dreams about being bullied, attacked, whatever, by becoming "awake" in the dream you can realize it's just a dream and change it to be about something positive instead.
