Mohammad (and the Muslims) claim that Allah is YHWH the God of Israel in his effort to portray Islam as the continuity of Judaism and Christianity.

Some Christians , in this age of inclusiveness, agree that Muslims and Christians are worshiping the SAME God.

And Arab Christians call God by the name of Allah.

The term Allāh is derived from a contraction of the Arabic definite article al- "the" and ilāh "deity, god" to al-lāh meaning "the [sole] deity, God"

Some claim that Allah is a general noun for God in Arabic while others insist that Allah is the proper noun ( proper name ) for the Muslim God. The Aramiac ( the language spoken by Jesus) word for God is Alaha or Elaha which is similar sounding.

Records shown that Allah existed way before Mohammad's Islam, in Babylon and Mecca.

The Meccans were worshiping 360 idols placed inside the Blackstone of Kaaba and one of the idol is the moongod Allah. He was said to have three daughters ( goddess). Archaeologically, Allah stone idols have been found in many places in the Middle East.

So is Allah = YHWH ?

Pre-Islamic Jews and Christians who spoke Arabic used "Allah" when talking about God. Because it's simply the Arabic word for "God".

Let's keep in mind also that in the Hebrew of the Old Testament "El" and its plural "Elohim" are used to refer to Israel's God, and also that "El" was the name of the chief Canaanite deity in its pagan pantheon.

Does that make Israel's God the chief pagan deity of the Canaanites?

I know at least one Coptic Orthodox follower who uses the Arabic word Allah just as an English speaker would use the word God in his worship.

We can wordplay all we like and try to strip the original meaning to something sinister. The word "God" has been used to refer to idols, demons and whatever else also.

I'd suggest looking at each individual's heart rather than lumping all users of a word into a category of wrong, as some might be tempted to do.

No

Allah is the moongod.

Cannot be the same God. They say their god has no son. The Christian God has a Son, the Messiah.

The Christian God says though shall not kill. Their god says kill the Christians and Jews.

The Christian God sent His Son to die for our salvation. To obtain salvation with the Muslim god you die in the act of killing others.

Same God? NOT A CHANCE

As Steeno 7 said, "Linguistically, yes."

As Choose Wisely pointed out, the "Allah" of Islam has different beginnings and different goals.

Regardless of what 'name' they use, Islam does not worship the same Creator God of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Certainly not the same Lord as modern Christians. I am reminded of the disparity between the Creator God of Christianity and the 'God' of Mormonism.

Allah of Islam is not under any circumstances a Triune God. Allah has no 'son' in any sense of the word. Christians are guaranteed eternal salvation and life with God simply be believing in, relying on Jesus' sacrifice. Islamics have NO absolute guarantee of "Heaven" at all - with the possible exception of murdering an infidel. (Preferable a Jew or Christian.)

My conclusion (money back guarantee) is the same 'word' is used in the sense of a single unit of language, but the descriptions and functions of the two concepts are very different, and they are therefore two different beings.

You seem to have a decidedly distorted image of Islam (and arguably of Christianity)?

Etymology doesn't tell you anything useful about meaning.
Allah is simply the Arabic word for God.

Do Muslims worship the same God as Christians? Yes, though they have a somewhat distorted picture of that God. Mind you, I'd say a lot of Christians seem to have a very distorted picture of God. And I presume mine is too.

Pretty much every argument that they are different Gods (rather than different understandings of the same God) would equally apply to the Jewish understanding of God; people get into an awful lot of special pleading in order to say Islam has a different God but Judaism doesn't.

I used to speak fluent Arabic. Allah is simply the Arabic word for God. However, I would say that a Christian's Allah is different than a Muslim's Allah. You can use the same word, but have distinctions in terms of meaning and connotation. We have this problem in Christian theology as well for various other terms, for what it's worth.

It's like asking whether IHVH is the same God as BAAL. BAAL simply means the Lord. This is exactly how the Israelites were led into BAAL worship. There is even evidence that Allah in his original Meccan form as the moon god WAS and IS BAAL of the Arabians.

What I'm saying is that Allah isn't a god similar to BAAL; Allah IS BAAL.

Say hello to Baalah, Hubal, and Illah. From as far back as anyone can remember, the syncretism of the east has always attempted to equate BAAL with IHVH. That is what led the children of Israel into apostasy nearly from day one. It is still what can lead man into apostasy. Because Satan's wiles haven't changed any. They just have a slightly different name now. And never believe that Allah is simply the Arabic word for God. Allah is a proper name of an idol. يهوه is IHVH. The general word for deity, or God in Arabic is ألوهية. Allah is a proper name like IHVH. It is NOT THE GENERAL WORD for God. Allah is الله. If anyone ever tells you that Allah is just the general Arabic word for God, they are lying to your face.

You realise you've just called just about the entirety of Arabic speaking and Malay speaking Christianity liars?

No.

"Allah" is simply arabic for "the god".

YHWH is hebrew for He who IS.

There is no more reason to associate allah with YHWH than with Jupiter or Zeus.

I doubt he cares. I took four semesters of Arabic. It's the general proper noun for a monotheistic God for Arabic-speaking people.

That's because it means "the god".

So its an easy word to use when we use the word "God".

The problem is that it implies that the Islamic deity and the Christian one are the same being, when they are not. The Islamic god offers a depraved "paradise" where the women are the sex slaves of men (and regenerate their virginity after each such encounter). The Christian God offers a chaste heaven where men and women are equal.

The idea that these are the same being is simply unfounded.

I haven't said that they are the same thing; they're definitely not. However, on a linguistic level, they are the exact same thing. Arabic-speaking Christians used the word "Allah" before Islam even existed.

Yet this thread is not about linguistics. It is about the substance of the matter, not simply the form. Allah is not YHWH. Allah is a pagan, carnal, deity of salvation by works. YHWH is a spiritual God of salvation by grace.
