Immigration and Customs Enforcement has put out a detainer for his arrest following his likely release by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. However, the Golden State’s sanctuary laws lead to questions about whether the state will adhere to that detainer. CDCR does typically cooperate with ICE detainers.
Before the tragedy, Ortega-Anguiano had multiple felonies on his record, as well as several convictions for driving without a license. Border czar Tom Homan vowed on Fox News to honor the detainer and swiftly place him into federal custody upon his release.

I don't understand the liberal approach to crime.

It may be "disgusting," but it's also "anecdotal."

Constant postings about individual crimes committed by individuals who happen to be immigrants are an attempt to instill hatred and prejudice on everyone in a demographic group based on the actions of a few criminals.

Show me real statistics from a credible news source. If I see a statistic like "37% of rapes in Chicago are committed by undocumented immigrants" I will take notice.

But when I see post after post after post about what one person did one time--and, BTW, that person is an undocumented immigrant--I get angry.

The major media plays down violence by transgenders and illegals and gives little time to the trafficked women and children the Biden administration lost track of. Victims continue to suffer and deserve our empathy and attention. "There but for the grace of God go I."

I'm guessing, this is the same sentence an American would receive. So, why would an illegal immigrant get more time? Not that I'm happy, that either would get such a light sentence.

Please read that article and you can find the answer about the length of the prison sentences.

You see the media ignoring this because our nation had been in serious crisis since 1/20. There are so many disasters resulting from White House actions each day they have all they can do to keep up with them.

The media did the same before Trump took office.

What if the person was not an undocumented immigrant?

Also anecdotal.
Stereotypes are morally and factually wrong.
What stereo type?

Which facts are incorrect in these growing numbers of cases?

How high does this crime wave have to reach before it is not anecdotal any more?

Where is the compassion and love of God for the families of the people murdered, who would be alive today if these illegal aliens had not broken the law over and over again?

Thank God for a President who quickly and effectively closed the border, unlike his predecessor.

Now we are left cleaning up the chaos that the Biden Administration left.

Ten years for gross (aggravated?) vehicular manslaughter seems about right to me. That's a serious sentence for a serious unintentional crime. Time off for time served awaiting trial is fair. Time off for good behavior seems to be as much about managing prisons as anything.

[U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California] [Bill] Essayli noted that pending charges — initially filed by his predecessor under the Biden administration — could land Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano in federal prison for up to 20 years if he is convicted of illegally reentering the country after being deported twice previously.

...A spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Ortega-Anguiano “received 334 days of pre-sentence credits for time served locally while awaiting sentencing and is eligible for credit-earning opportunities while incarcerated.”

...Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office subsequently released a statement pledging to honor the detainer on Ortega-Anguiano, saying that state prison officials “will again coordinate with ICE — as they have w/ 10,000+ inmates — to transfer him before release.”

A spokesperson for ICE said a detainer was placed on June 9, 2022, while Ortega-Anguiano was housed at North Kern State Prison. According to ICE, his previous criminal convictions include burglary in 2005; vehicle theft in 2007; and battery on spouse with kidnapping in 2014.

It seems as though the questions are 1) should he be tried on the pending federal charges, 2) if convicted on those charges should he serve time in the federal penitentiary or 3) he should just be given to ICE for immediate deportation and 4) should he be rendered to the gulag? It is not that he will be freed.

Do they? I assume that you (or one of your co-travellers on this path) posts an article in some sort of "major media" source for every last major crime committed by an "illegal" or "transgender". (Since we are talking about "major crimes", these are the kind of crimes that are reported in the local newspapers regardless of who committed them.) [At this point I am reminded that at one point Brietbart used to have a section on "black crime". I assume that some RW media site is aggregating all of the "transgender crime" and "'illegal' crime" article from the local papers, TV stations, and new sites.]

Well an illegal alien has already committed the first crime as coming into the nation "illegally." So if they then commit another crime then there should be more punishment for 2 crimes.

Not all stereotypes are morally and factually wrong. Sometimes it is called discernment. For example, would a young woman be morally and factually wrong to be afraid of a homeless man approaching her on the street at night? Think about the fable of the frog and the scorpion.

The vehicular homocide was tried, sentenced and served as a state crime; the state does not have jurisdiction for immigration crimes. He has yet to be tried on the federal charges which were filed back in 2022 and are still pending. The governor has put a detainer on him for ICE. It’s simply wrong to claim that he is being freed when his release from the state penitentiary is to federal custody.

To me it’s a very weird take to ask if it’s morally wrong to be afraid as that really isn’t a question of morality but of perception.

As a young woman I lived alone in Hell’s Kitchen just below Port Authority bus station in NYC. I also worked the evening shift which meant walking home in the wee hours of the morning. Homeless men were not what scared me but young men with money and a sense of entitlement (and of course drug addicts needing a quick buck). The street women never bothered me but they did harass male visitors.
