Hi,

I just joined a Baptist church and I must say I am very happy in the Lord for doing so! As this is Pastor appreciation month, I realize that my family and I should probably do something(they joined before me) for him but we don't have any clue! Please help :)

I started a thread yesterday in this room:
"Verses for your pastor during Pastor Appreciation Month". It has many verses, which I cut into sections* and glued into a homemade book. But they could just be printed out and put into a folder or envelope.
Aloha in Jesus

*verses of gratitude for a pastor's humility, dedication, faithfulness, and obedience, and verses of encouragement in his calling

And while I am at it let me make a few suggestions

1 Send your pastor hand made cards from your kids
2 How about a picture of your family with a note on the front to hang in his office?
3 A Cassarole would be nice drop one off Remember the PASTORS WIFE!
4 Say while that cassarole is heating up why not take the pastors wife down to the nail salon and both you girls get your nails done?
5 Are those leaves in Pastors yard? You know if he is raking he is not prepairing sermons.

What I am saying to you all is its' not about cost in terms of money its in terms of love. You may not know this but your pastor loves you. Thats why we stay in this business.

One last thing
Don't forget that uncle of yours who is a retired pastor
And the assistant pastor at your church
Oh and that fellow from down the street that pastors that little independant church across town with not many members. How about him?
And that preacher stays up to give that online bible study you have been going to

you know a couple of cards or an e- card might make some ones day who is pouring out into your life in ways you don't even know about

And I will add:
Don't leave out those small group leaders, they are pastors.

Never heard of it--who invented this...Hallmark?

Ya know, it puts me to mind at how much the church is like a business. It's like "teacher appreciation" and "secretary appreciation" and all that other stuff. If we have to have a special month (why October) to officially appreciate someone then something is wrong. I picture a pastor like a father-use the birthday or something as a reminder-along with all the other anniversary dates (installment date, Christmas, etc) but mostly show the appreciation every time you see him, follow what the man is preaching and apply it, volunteer for those jobs he has a hard time filling, and just be the body of Christ he is ministering to.

Don't just treat like another hired gun...
