Hymns of Easter

What are some of your favorite hymns related to Holy Week - to Good Friday & Easter? I am new to TEC's hymnal & while a few of the songs have been familiar to me, most times each week I am "learning" (which I love to sing & usually can pick up on the songs easily.)

I really like "O Sacred Head Now Wounded," not sure if that is in TEC's hymnal or for other Anglican churches? I wish I knew more good hymns celebrating the Resurrection. I probably know some, but my brain doesn't always work.

My favorite Easter Hymn is Christ the Lord is Risen Today using Charles Wesley's rewrite of the original Latin Hymn.

I love O Sacred head Sore Wounded as well. I went on Sunday to see the St Matthew passion performed, and something about that refrain just makes me cry.

My daughter, however, though I think she enjoyed it, complained that Bach didn't write in English.

Speaking of this, one of the Palm Sunday (actually ST eve) was The Old Rugged Cross. It seemed very fitting, and a favorite of the parish.

I would say that most of our songs are suitable for Easter.

One traditional hymn that stands out is, "Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia".

I also like "Were You There"

I like both "Were you there when they crucified my Lord" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

I have only come across them in our ecumenical (churches together) March of Witness on Good Friday. I would love if these songs were added to our church repertoire.

Hail Thee, Festival Day - a very ancient hymn. It's usually a processional at the local cathedral, with brass instruments and drums.
