I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this, but for what is worth, St. Epiphanius wrote a comprehensive explanation about all the measures used in scripture including omer or homer here.

Ex16:33 Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the LORD to be kept for the generations to come."

Its an ancient Hebrew dry measure - equal to a tenth of an ephah (seriously)

OK - Before you ask. An ephah is around 40 litres/9 gallons. This makes an omer around 4 litres or a little under a gallon.

That is larger than I thought... I somehow thought that an ephah would be about the size of a cereal bowl.

The Mishnah says:
64 kortabs (the contents of 6 eggs) = 1 log.
4 logs = 1 kab
6 kabs = 1 seah
3 seahs = 1 ephah - one 10th of which was the Omer
30 seahs = 1 kor or 1 homer

Calculators out folks - how many eggs in an omer (or a homer)? This will give you some idea of the size / weight.

This is not a trick question - a quick look at the Mishnah will show these figures :)
