Hello. I am currently a member of a non-denom evangelical "community church." However, as I get older and read more about church history, I am increasingly unsatisfied with the three word three chord "worship songs" and other "low church" elements. I think I might be able to fit in in the Lutheran church, and a friend who is from a LCMS background loaned me a copy of Walther's Law and Gospel book, which I have found encouraging. Anyway, there are not any LCMS congregations within driving distance of me. However, a month or so ago, I stumbled across a church which said it was a part of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. Is anybody familiar with this group, and do you know how they might compare with the LCMS? I don't know for certain that the Lutheran church is for me, but it's certainly an option. Thank you ahead of time for your thoughts.

Hi Dave and welcome to Theologia Crucis! The LCMC is very close to the LCMS, but there is one very important point of difference. We in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod reject the modernist unbiblical practice of ordaining women. We stand fully on the Word of God and on the Lutheran confessions. The LCMC is a break away of the much larger, much more liberal ELCA. I suggest that you should try it out, but more practically you should try to find a Missouri Synod or an American Association of Lutheran Church closer to you.

I am a member of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. In fact, our NorthWest District recently had its annual gathering. I would recommend visiting http://www.lcmc.net and reading through everything. It is always good to be aware of what a particular church group believes. A pdf file discussing LCMC can be found at: http://www.lcmc.net/Q A Rev 082506.pdf.

Now, please understand that we are the conservative faction that split from the ELCA. True, many of joined the LC-MS, others stayed and formed this new (less than ten years old) association. Sadly, this means we still have a few ELCA type things that need to be disposed of.

The LC-MS is fortunate to not have that taint. If the little LCMC church I attend were to close its doors, I would likely seek an LC-MS church to join. I refuse to return to the ELCA.

Please let an LCMC member speak regarding LCMC. We are split on the topic of the ordination of women, roughly 50-50. There are those of us who are seeking to change that. This will take time and study. It took years to break from the ELCA. This may also take years.

Also, did the original poster not say that it wasn't practical for him to drive to an LC-MS church?

Yes so I suggested that he look harder for a closer LCMS church, or a church that we are in fellowship with. I don't understand what the conservatives are doing in the LCMC. If and when this church body does get rid of the liberal doctrine it would be most likely absorbed by the LCMS. I would not be a member of a church body that would permit unbiblical ordination. Even if it is split 50/50.

:( :o Please goto Youtube and look up LCMC. Maybe you will learn and understand. It breaks my heart you are judging LCMC and me this way.

I am not judging the LCMC. I just have absolutley no respect for the ELCA, nor any church body that reflects the liberal modernist theology. Having female pastors is part of that. I wasn't trying to sound harsh, but I am really confused as to what conservative Lutherans are doing in the ELCA. New church bodies don't need to be formed...we already have like 20 in the U.S. alone. ALthough I'm guessing that number will double no matter what the results are after the 2009 sexuality study's results are stated.

Thank you all for the links. It's looks like I've stirred up something I didn't intend. Sorry about that. I'll duck out now and check out those links so as not to further facilitate an argument.

It's quite impossible to not stir something up every now and again.

Heh, we're Lutherans. We're all born just as stubborn and opinionated as our dear Doctor Martin Luther. *G*

Around here just about anything can make anyone get into one of these:

Welcome to TCL, Dave! Ask away and you'll find we're always good for an answer...even if we do grumble amongst ourselves.
