How do you know when you pray you feel holy spirit or emotions because the feeling sometimes is very similar.

The two are not mutually exclusive. The Holy Spirit changes our emotions and works through our emotions. But the Holy Spirit is not an emotion. When the Holy Spirit moves, he enlightens our minds, reveals sin, softens hearts, and renews our wills.

He causes us to understand God’s word. So when you find yourself truly understanding the Bible, you have the Holy Spirit to thank.

He shows us our sin. So if you find yourself seeing your sin more clearly and grieving over it and wanting to repent, you have the Holy Spirit to thank.

He strengthens our wills. So if you find yourself resisting sin and overcoming sin or turning from sin then you have the Holy Spirit to thank.

Emotion will always be part of this. But you can see how the work of the Holy Spirit cannot be reduced to emotion.

When the Holy Spirit wants you to feel his presence, you will know. He always hears your prayers.

Holy spirit works in our minds and hearts..because i believe there is where the work needs to be done and fixed. I dont really know about emotions but they run wild however some of the fruits of the holy spirit will give you a feeling and knowing of its character. Holy spirit trains and anew our minds and works on our hearts and character...but you have to let it work in you when it does....and learn to listen to it when it is working in ya..(the holy spirit is like the mind heart voice and spirit of God)...when you let the holy spirit work in those areas, you wont be fillled with feelings..you will be filled with the truth and the mind Christ..and even though he works in our hearts also i believe the holy spirit truly lives in our minds....you dont pray on your own, the holy spirit does that..you cant live outside of Gods mind and pray..either youre in the spirit or not..and youre in it because you prayed...not because you feel things..

Good question! Many Christians make the mistake of thinking that if they are very emotional when praying or worshiping that they are having a more spiritual experience. No where in Scripture, though, is emotion - however strong - equated with spirituality. Now, our emotions ought to be engaged by our life in the Spirit, but they follow after the mind and will in spiritual living, they ought not to lead the mind and will.
