I was originally going to wait until I moved to my new apartment, and built my apartment there, and shared that with you, but I'm with this current one for now.

So I thought in this, thread we could talk about home altars, and other Catholic decorations for the home, such as icons and statues and the like.

Here's what my home altar at my parents' place looks like so far:

What do you think? What does your home altar look like?

This is the old family Bible from my great grandmother that we use on Sundays for family reading and we put on the family altar on holy days. It is fragile or it would be there all the time. It is a Douay-Rheims.

Very nice! I don't have an altar persay, but it's close. Lord knows I have enough Catholic items to make a very elaborate one but just have not done it yet. So far, it is all my Christian antique reading surrounded with vintage Carhuc items I have collected. So it is not really set up as an altar right now.

I like all the pictures! A home altar sounds like a great idea! We don't have room for one right now but maybe we'll eventually be able to try setting one up.
We do have Catholic items however, like two statues of Mary (one big, one small), rosaries, Miraculous Medals, etc. I have a St. Anthony/St. Jude necklace (each side has one of the two saints on it), a Catholic Bible, some Catholic prayer books, two tiny St. Jude medals...there are some other things we have that I'm not sure if they're strictly Catholic or just for all Christians.

I want to get two angel statues to place on each side of Our Lady of Hope so that she'll resemble the Ark of the Covenant, and remind me of the Exodus I'm taking to our true Promised Land.

Here's the my Home Altar at my Apartment:
IMG_2948.jpg

It used to have my RSV-CE Bible, Catechism and Relic of St. Philomena on it (You can barely make the St. Philomena relic, in the picture of my Altar at my parents' house, it's just peaking out from behind The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that is, the Blue Book.)

In the house we bought, we have been extremely blessed to be able to use what was originally the dining room as our prayer room. It is central to the house, with entries from the lounge, kitchen and family room, and the main wall faces East. This has been 20 years in the making.

Wow, I hope I, one day, have a house with it's own room dedicated to prayer and sacred art.

When my wife and I looked at the house, the Real Estate agent was reluctant to take us in, because the present owners smoked heavily but kept the house closed up. The walls and carpet were all stained from cigarette smoke, the kitchen cabinets were falling apart and there was extensive damage to some walls which was hidden by wall hangings. My wife and I immediately saw the potential for having a prayer room and from that point none of the other issues mattered. We are still fixing up the house bit by bit, but we constantly give glory to God for having been able to realise what had been a dream of ours for years.

Now there's, a good method for searching for the perfect house!

Here's a couple more Catholic objects I have with me at home right now:
IMG_2963.jpg

A week or two ago, my dad got me this small statue of sorts, of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this is a shortened form of the Divine Office, I've picked it up as a way regimenting my prayer life, I say almost every hour, except for Lauds, for the obvious reason that it's at 3 in the morning!

Hey everyone, I've updated my Home Altar awhile back, but for some reason the pictures I took wouldn't appear on my computer until today, here it is, I added my "pocket-sized" Douay-Rheims Bible and Catechism:
