• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

So a little background information about me.

I struggled for around 4 years with OCD, at times even so bad that it would take me around 2 hours just to get in bed, because I felt compelled to do things out of OCD before I went to bed. For example, I felt the need to check behind every door and crack in my room about 3 times each, and if I did not I would check and check until it 'felt right'. My OCD basically began to begin to control my life. I never got medical help, and I never told anyone about it. I just let it control me. It got so bad that I basically could not live 'normally' (without stress of OCD) and I had basically lost my free will so to speak. It was not a pleasant experience.

Anyway, all is good now and I have no more OCD, (of course a little here and there, I am not perfect) but the majority is I am OCD free. I have to give all my thanks to Jesus, as He is the way I was ridden and cleansed of this OCD controlling my life.

So a very common theme I have noticed, particularly among Christians struggling with OCD is that they feel the need to pray very often/obsessively, and they feel sometimes as if there prayers are not good enough, or that they need to constantly be forgiven of sin or they even feel that they are not forgiven of sin. I know the list is long, but I have dealt with about all the things I listed there. I would pray, and feel that I messed up the prayer, and I would have a feeling that the prayer was completely useless. I would even has feelings that my sins stained me and that every little thing I did wrong was a sin and I had this feeling of never being cleansed of my sins. I found myself praying from OCD and not from my heart, and I was praying just to fill a gap that wasn't there that OCD made me feel as if it was there. I was not praying from my heart, and my faith was practically robotic.

So I am here to give all the advise on how to overcome your OCD's. I have dealt with OCD thoughts, actions, words, habits, you name it, so feel free to ask me anything you need, and I will do the best to help you with it.

I just want to be blunt and get straight to the point. I know it may be hard to believe, or you may have heard it over and over and over again, but Jesus is truly the best, if not the only way, to overcome your OCD. The first step is having faith. Simple as that. You need to trust in Jesus and trust that when you pray, when you ask for forgiveness, when you say something, Jesus truly hears it and will answer it.

I will be putting bible verses in blue, just so they can be easily identified in the thread.

Here are some that will hopefully be helpful to those of you struggling with OCD prayers.

Jeremiah 33:3

"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

Matthew 7:7-8

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

Matthew 21:22

"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

John 14:14

"If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."

We can see here that the bible clearly states to us that our prayers will be and are answered, and that we have nothing to worry. I find these verses very helpful to reinforce the fact that we should not worry and have feelings that our prayers are not answered/ignored.

And I want to share one last verse about OCD prayer, one that particularly helped me drastically.

Matthew 6:7

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."

I feel that this verse really spoke to me when I was praying OCD. When it mentions 'vein prayers' it is not necessarily saying it is bad to pray the same more than once, but I feel that it is saying that we should not be praying from OCD and not just to pray, but to pray only from your heart and when you truly need to share some words with God.

The second step, I think, in overcoming OCD, is realizing that OCD is nothing but Satan's work. OCD is something that Satan uses to cause distress and corruption in our lives. Satan uses OCD as a way to control us, to get us to do things we don't want to do, or even things we should not do. I have seen cases where people have had blasphemous thoughts that they could not remove from there mind, and I have also seen/dealt with thoughts that are of hurting or causing pain to others, and it is for no reason. Just OCD. We all know you don't want to think these thoughts, but OCD causes you to do so.

So the reason I mentioned that OCD is from Satan, is because as a Christian, you cannot listen to Satan, and you should not be doing what Satan wants you to do. You should be only listening to what God and Jesus tell you to do, as God and Jesus know what is right. I feel that when I am OCD and falling into OCD, that I am listening to what Satan is telling me to do, and I feel as if I am not doing as God wants me do. I, in a way, used this as way to avoid OCD.

The third step is prayer. Pray daily that Jesus forgive you, rid you, and cleanse you of all your OCD. Pray for a renewed and new body, mind, heart, and soul from Jesus. Pray your mind be clean and pure and holy, and that your mind think only and focus only on Jesus Christ. Pray and ask Jesus for strength and guidance to not be corrupted and brought down, but to be strong and determined. Pray that Jesus guide you in your daily life, and be right on your side, living in you, and you in Christ. It will help. As I said earlier, God answers prayers, He answered mine and I know He will answer yours too.

The fourth step, is simply patience. Remember that God is all knowing and He knows when and where and how everything goes on. God knew you before He created the earth. He knew your name before your parents were born. He knows all. God does not always do things in the time we want. What we want, is not always what God knows best. God will do what He says He will. It may take 10 seconds, it may take 10 years. God is not procrastinating. He just knows when things need to be done, and God does them when the time comes. Have faith and patience, and trust that God will help you and answer your prayers, even if it is not in the time you want.

I hope I can be of best help to all who need it. I struggled with OCD and I know how it feels. It seems there is no help, but there is. I promise you. Please also remember it is not me holding on to the answers, but Jesus. Reach out to Him, and pray daily. Read your bible and have faith. Be patient, as Jesus knows the time, not you.

If you need anything else or have questions/want specific help on some sort of OCD, I am glad to help. You can post here for help or feel free to PM me if its your cup of tea. And remember I am not perfect, none of us are, so what I say may not work for you. I let Jesus guide me in my daily life and look to God for the answers. I hope I can help as many of you as possible. I feel that God wants me to do this, so I am doing as God wants. Be a sheep, and let Jesus be your guiding Shepard, and do as He says.

I will continue to post help/tips and some more verses as God shows me them.

Remember, stay faithful, and do your best to bring Praise and Glory to Jesus name everyday. PRAISE JESUS!!!

God Bless all!!!
