I was flipping through the channels the other morning when I saw Good Charlotte's video for their new song "The River".
Interested, I stopped and decided to listen.

What I heard shocked and confused me.
Here's the lyrics:

"The River"
As I walk through the valley
of the shadow of LA
The footsteps that were next to me
have gone their separate ways
I've seen enough now
to know that beautiful things
don't always stay that way
I've done enough now
to know this beautiful place
isn't everything they say
I heard that evil comes disguised
Like the city of angels
I'm walking towards the light

Baptized in the river
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered
In the city was a sinner
I've done a lot of things wrong
But I swear I'm a believer
Like the prodigal son
I was out on my own
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Baptized in the river
I'm delivered
I'm delivered

[M.Shadows:]
You're from a small town
You're gonna grow up fast
underneath these lights
Down in Hollywood
on the boulevard the dead comes back to life
To the praying Mother
And the worried Father
Let your children go
If they come back
They'll come home stronger
And if they don't you'll know

They say evil comes disguised
Like the city of angels
I'm walking towards the light

Baptized in the river
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered
In the city was a sinner
I've done a lot of things wrong
But I swear I'm a believer
Like the prodigal son
I was out on my own
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Baptized in the river
I'm delivered
I'm delivered

Baptized in the river (on my own)
Baptized in the river (on my own)
I wanna be delivered
(on my own, on my own)
Baptized in the river (on my own)
I wanna be delivered
Baptized in the river (on my own)
I wanna be delivered
Baptized in the river (on my own)
I wanna be delivered
I confess I'm a sinner
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered!

What do you guys think he means by these lyrics?

They're looking for deliverance from their sins?

I'm not sure... Am I right in thinking that the Maddens were to some extent brought up n a spiritual background? It's also quite interesting to link it back to their song It Wasn't Enough...written about a seeming weakness in faith...perhaps this new song is about a faith renewed? Or the beginings of a renewal? *shrugs*

I think M. Shadows vocals on this make a cool addition :)

I used to like GC a lot,
and I know that these guys (all of them) are born again,
(or at least were o_O)
they used to be VERY open about it in interviews before that even the young and hopeless was released.

in both the first cd's (st and YaH) they all thank God in their thank list, on the first place if I recall right)

but they left it away in the chronicles I think ...
