Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The fact that scripture talks about an afterlife also proves nothing!
You forget that quoting scripture is meaningless to non believers, whereas someone's personal experience, along with evidence of stuff he otherwise could not possibly know, will make unbelievers sit up and think.
Such experiences also applies to Christians, who are often very confused about scripture. And its no good claiming that scripture says this or that about anything. If it was all plain sailing, then there would not be so many conflicting theologies abounding in the church, all being taught by people who claim they are backed by scripture.
One of the reasons why back in 1990 I decided that the "Soul Sleep" doctrine must be incorrect was because a good friend of mine, although they were members of the same church that I was in, reported having had many out of the body experiences while they were younger.
He, like me, loved the Soul Sleep theory because it sounded more humane than an ever burning hell........ but once I read the near death experience account of Dr. George Ritchie I soon clued that there was no way that our Soul Sleep doctrine could be accurate in the light of both scriptures on the topic..... plus NDE accounts that sounded so much like II Corinthians 12:2-4.
