A born again spirit can have filthiness that needs cleansing?

2 Cor 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit , perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
KJV

How do you think that works?

What "filthiness" can a born again spirit have?

:)

Well, look at the context.

In 6:16-18 we see the promises that we have. We are the temple of God and should have no agreement with idols. When we do, we defile our spirit.

If we did this without Jesus, we would be lost; with Jesus our sins (for they are still sins!) are washed (past, present and future). Nonetheless, we need to cleanse ourselves for this is our part in the sanctification process: cleanse youselves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit (brought on by our association with those idols we are told to be seperate from).

There are physical sins: adultery, murder. And there are spiritual sins: lust and anger. Can a born again believer lust? Can he be angry (and sin)? Of course. So a lustful believer is sinning spiritually. This is filthiness unto the Lord.

A born again believer has Jesus' blood to wash this sin, but this does not relieve us from repenting and partaking in the cleansing process (sanctification) of our spirit. Jesus forgave us, once for all, and He washed us, once for all. This is a done deal, sealed by the Holy Spirit. But our sanctification is an ongoing process: and you have part in it, as 2 Cor 7:1 states.

First thing that came to my mind Optimax was, "filthy" lucre.... meaning that money, especially when gained in a dishonest or dishonorable way... Where money, (and even lots of it) is not wrong at all, it's the love of the "filthy" stuff that gets us into trouble...

Little off topic, but hope it's okay... :p

Greater works...

Are those actually "spiritual sins" of just caused by the cares of this world, lust of the eyes, lust of other things entering in.
In short, yes.
Matthew 15:18-19
18 ...those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man--
In the Old Testament we have the picture of clean and unclean things. Unclean things defile. Even touching them causes penance. Jesus tells us that we are defiled by what comes out of our heart. Some of these are more sins of the flesh -- and perhaps examples of adultery and lust belong even in the physical -- and some are sins of the spirit, such as when we give ourselves over to another master, to an idol.

Let me ask you from this vantage point: what is sanctification?
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
Your sanctification comes with some "you should's." You should seek to be clean -- for to not is a defilement and leaves you unclean, not holy. Sanctification is a process by which you are made holy.

Let me add this to the discussion as well:
2 Timothy 2:20-26
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
Whose job is it to cleanse? Ours. What is the result? Sanctification (and qualification!).

There is a way into the Holy Place and it takes some dedicated time.

Bring every thought into the obediance and captivity of Christ.

How does this work? In our lives we make mental or mind connections with friends and families.
These connections come from a rebellious nature.

The prophet Samuel said rebellion is as witchcraft. This tells us that there are strong mind connections between everyone.
The mind uses the brain to create sensations within the body by its electrical and chemical action.
One person while in a conversation will put out in the voice and with body language both being read and complimentary sensations appear in the other persons body.

When a friend is thought about certain feelings or a memory of the persons type and who the person is as different from others is held in the mind. The brain is used to produce the chemical and electrical response to the thoughts in the mind and this affects all the biology.

Read your own energy and sensations in the body when talking with others. Sometimes there is something apparent from the head to the stomach and lower. It is all the workings of the biological. Is this the mark of the best?

The mind can be purified and it is related in scriptures. It is by the Spirit because it is impossible to break free by any other method. A fast from food and all unbelievers conversation.

Only say those words that come into the thoughts as revelation and only say those words that confirm them from scriptures.
This is difficult and I did this for three weeks and there must be no turning back from a forward or momentum.

Eventually demons in own mind will reveal themselves and they have been hidden in subtle nature traits that are you, your personality and how you would behave in any circumstance.

These must be cleared in the name of Jesus Christ and if they do not go you are in trouble. You need the Holy Spirit and an active faith which has increased as the fast has continued.

There is a way of breaking the heart to a depth usually unattainable and the nature of Jesus will cover and God will indwell powerfully.

One example would be would be not not discerning false doctrine when it is being promoted. We are surrounded by false doctrine. In Galatians 1:8-9, one is cursed if participating in false doctrine, whether actively or passively participating. This is a big category as false doctrine involves lying about God and is very prevalent.

Full agreement.

To sit listening to someone for up to an hour sets up barriers and produces either a mental hardness or passive ensnarement.

The mind is captured into an intellectual tussle as it reads the personality of the talker and what he is saying. Like him or hate him.

The priests preach with their own power and the people like to have it so.

Because the people like to have their own intellectual prowess however dull and there is no requirement to change.

...rebellion is witchcraft.

We don't know what Adam was thinking but read an article that presented Eve committed all 3 types of sin; namely, the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life (I John 2:16; Gen 3:6; Gal 5:17-26).

Gen 3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."

She knew what was right (Gen 3:2-3); however, she reasoned and the results were against Yahweh's instructions (Gen 3:6).
