Father Jackson, 66, was arrested Oct. 30 by members of a Rhode Island state task force executing a search warrant at St. Mary’s rectory.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — In the weeks leading up to his arrest on child pornography charges, Father James W. Jackson wrote at length in his parish bulletin about sex abuse scandals perpetrated by “psychosexually dysfunctional” priests, singling out former cardinal Theodore McCarrick as a “creep” who hid a sinful private life with outward good works with the help of corrupt friends in the Catholic hierarchy.

“Any man who tries to live his celibacy without faith, sanctifying grace and a serious life of prayer and dedication to the interior life will eventually (and sometimes this takes only a few years) turn to empty amusements and pleasures in drink, food, fancy vacations at best and pornography and the pursuit of sexual relationships at worst,” he wrote.

Something does not add up here.

And then this quote: “Add to this the grim statistic from CARA (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate) which claims that 85% of priests are not praying their Divine Office,” he wrote.

Priests are required to say their office daily. Perhaps a rare day of not saying it is no big deal, but if most of them skip it with regularity it's not surprising the mess we are in.

What a mess.

You think he was framed cause he was calling out his fellow priests? I mean, I'm inclined to agree with Fr. Nix - whom I don't always agree with - that Fr. Jackson is probably innocent.

I donno.

All I can say now is that this one doesn't add up. But then the imprisonment of Fr. Gordon MacRae doesn't add up either. He definitely seems innocent.

I don't know anything about Father Jackson, although I'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to be aware of McCarrick.

Fr. Jackson is either innocent or guilty. We're going to have to leave it to the process of law to work that one out, just as we did with Cardinal Pell.

My only other comment is that I find it a bit incredulous that he left everything on an external hard drive in the rectory connected to his bedroom, although there was apparently another computer with a peer to peer network.

It's pretty easy to plant an external hard drive on someone, but it wouldn't be quite so easy to set up a peer to peer computer with Fr. Jackson's browsing activities recorded on a server somewhere.

If he's guilty, I suspect he restricted his activities to social media only and not physical intimacy as there have been no complaints anywhere he has served.

Meanwhile all we can do is wait.

I'm just going to say that my pedophile step dad who abused my brother and me for over a decade was always outspoken against pedophiles and has a good reputation in his community. He got away with it.

Yup.

There are those falsely accused. Pell and Rutler come to mind, and they were cleared. Others like MacRae aren't so lucky. And then there are the snakes like McCarrick, thousands of them, who are odious sons of perdition, who ought to pay now and will pay later.

So I wait. Not proclaiming anything with regards to this particular guy than that it doesn't add up just yet.
