The reason I asked was because of that verse in Leviticus 19:28, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." Anyway, I know I'm not worshipping the dead...so yeah I guess it's okay...or is it?

My take on those OT laws is that for us they are spiritual instructions. We're not supposed to scar (pierce, tattoo) our "heart" with things of this world. Now, granted, we are to take care of our body and needn't do anything really destructive to it, but I don't think a couple of piercings or tattoos really hurts our body.

Just make sure you don't wear ungodly earrings or tattoos. :)

Why on earth would God be concerned whether or not you had your ear pierced, or where?

Do you ask him what you should wear each day??

We are dealing with a God that knows how many hairs there are on our heads. There is no part of our lives that does not matter to Him.

I want to get an ear piercing on my cartilage, but I don't want to if God doesn't want me to. Is it allowed?

I your eye causes you to sin pluck it out... it is better to enter heaven blind then to be cast into hell with ya sight... or something to that point.... I am sure you have heard it before.

Here is the thing you need to think about when making the decision: Is it sin? a piercing in itself is not sinful...

Jesus said it is not what enters our body that makes us unclean, He was talking about food really but it is still relevant, it is what we say and do because (like Jesus said) Mout of your mouth flows the excess of the heart.

So back to the point... If it is your decision to make (ie: your parents havn't said not to do it or something else like that) then make it and be happy and love God and have a cool piercing.

If your doing it would be wrong for any reason, like you are disobeying your parents, then don't do it.

Peace.

PS: I have had both eyebrows done, took the first out cause I wanted to see what it would look like on the other side, took the second one out cause my parents didnt like it...but will probably get it again once I leave home (SOON thank goodness I am 20 already sheesh about time right? lol)

Why do you think that none of those things matters to God? God often instructed people on exactly what to name their childlren. He would not do that if He did not care about their names.

In Old Testament days, both earrings and (believe it or not) nose rings were considered beautiful. Now, how do you get a ring to stay in/on your nose or your ears? I'm assuming they had to be pierced. If that's true, then obviously the prohibition against cutting your flesh was refering to something completely different, some form of mutilation probably associated with some pagan ritual.

Do a search on earrings at one of the online Bible sites and see how many verses turn up. As far as I can remember, none of these verses condemns the wearing of earrings; in fact, God Himself says that He (figuratively) put earrings of gold and a nose ring of gold on Jerusalem (Ezekial 16: 11, 12). So I don't think you'd be doing anything remotely sinful to get your ears pierced.

Shizzle said "the name of our dog" -- not the name of our children.

Instances of God telling people what to name their children are few and far between, and I'm not sure he cares what average people name their kids. However, I do, and I'm here to provide a little guidance:

Absolutely forbidden:

1. Names that will make your child sound like a comic book character, a lady of the evening, or a butler. (Trinity, Destiny, Wolverine, Lance, Brandy, Tiffany, Amber, Trevor, etc.)

2. "Cute" or original spellings (Kaitlynne, Nyckolas, Ja'net, etc.), especially any name ending in -ee, unless it's French. (Renée is okay; avoid Brandee, Haylee, Natalee, etc. Note: Jackée is not French.)

Strongly discouraged:

1. Names that will make your child sound like an escapee from a religious cult (Nehemiah, Zacchaeus, Maher-Shalal-Hashbaz, etc.).

2. Names of states, except for Virginia and Georgia.

3. "Virtue" names (Temperance, Chastity, Fidelity, etc.) except for Faith, Hope, Charity, and Sophia.

4. Whatever Hollywood celebrities are naming their children this year.

5. Nicknames and diminutives. It's Robert, not Bobby, and Victoria, not Tori. Trust me.

6. The full names of preachers, politicians, and celebrities, unless they're personal friends of yours. (No "Ronald Reagan Smith", "Jennifer Aniston Jones", or "Jerry Falwell Brown.") The people who are going to do this won't listen anyway, but just ask yourself whether Grover Cleveland Johnson or Joan Crawford Jackson was a good idea.

7. Elmer. Because I say so, that's why.

There. Go and sin no more. :D

It only takes one instance of God doing something for us to know that it is something that matters to Him. In my life God has used the name of my dog and my birthdate to open up conversations that became opportunities to witness.

And who are "average people"? I don't know about you, but I'm made in the image of God, Jesus died for my sins and the Holy Sprit lives within me. I think that I am very special to God. I think that all Christians are and being special to God is hardly "average".

I don't think the piercing of ears matters all that much to God, in general. But the piercing of this particular young woman's ears may matter a great deal to God. If it does, and if she is listening, God will let her know.

Well, God chose some pretty nasty names for some children - look at Hosea, who was told to name his daughter "unloved". OK, so God wanted to make a point in this case - I just hope the child didn't live up to her name!

I honestly think God has better, and more important, things to do than worry about where we put our earrings. After all, there are 20 million galaxies in the universe - and those are just the ones we know about! When I think of God keeping all that lot going, it blows my mind! How can he possibly be worried about an ear?

We all just love to stuff God Almighty into a man-sized box. If He didn't care about the hairs on your head, He wouldn't speak so lovingly about them in His Bible. Yes, your piercings do matter to Him, and to judge whether or not they are a sin, you ought to ask yourself a few questions, and honestly. If it is out of any sense of rebellion whatever, it is a sin. If it mars the natural beauty of your body or disfigures you in some way, it is sinful. If it has anything to do with pagan worship, it is sinful. Yes, that includes all forms of idolatry. Basically, you ought to ask yourself whether your piercing glorifies God. If you're not guilty of any of the above, I'd say go for it. Just make sure it's tasteful. I think God made women more than beautiful enough already, that excessive jewelry and makeup just covers up the natural beauty and majesty God bestowed on woman.

Yes, God did. And at the end of the story, God told Hosea to give them new names that meant the opposit of their original names. The names mattered to God, and he was not going to have those people go through life with those nasty names!

I honestly think God has better, and more important, things to do than worry about where we put our earrings. Well, the Bible tell us differently.
Matthew 10:29-31
29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny[a]? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

The number of hairs on each of our heads. The location of every single sparrow. God knows these things, in addition to knowing all about all the galaxies in the universe and beyond. It is supposed to blow our minds that the God who made and controls all of that knows all about our hair, and our ears and if we put holes in them or not.
