Does everybody has the spirit or gift of Disernment?

The bible says only those with the spirit of God are able to discern the things of God.

Speaking of the spiritual gift of discenerment (1 Cor 12) , that is the Holy Spirit given ability to determine the source spirit of a person or message..no

Speaking of the human ability to discern....no because it's an ability and not a gift.

Many people seem to be quite without discernemt or wisdom

There is a significant difference between being born of the Spirit and manifesting the spiritual gift of discerning of spirits. Through being born of the Spirit we are given access into the kingdom of God, and can percieve spiritual matters. The gift of discernment enables a person to sence from the Spirit whether something (word, action, manifestation, etc.) originates with the Lord, the person, or a demonic spirit. People with the gift of discernment also tend to be hyper sensitive concerning spiritual matters. The gift of discerning of spirits is relatively rare and can even come across as odd to many who do not understand that gifting.

Right on, amen, you are spot on.

Does the Bible say only folks who are indwelt "are able to discern the things of God." No it does not! Romans 2 tells us that His invisible attributes have been made know to us through what He has made - all of creation. So we are without excuse.

Well then what does the Bible say? 1 Corinthians 2:14 says "But the natural man (without the indwelt Spirit) does not accept "the things of the Spirit of God." The idea is that some spiritual things can only be discerned with the Spirits help. These are the things of the Spirit of God. But other spiritual things of God, the milk of the gospel can be discerned by a natural man who is still in the flesh. That is a why Paul spoke to babes in Christ as men in the flesh, because although indwelt, they had not learned from the Spirit, so he had to speak to them just as he spoke to men in the flesh. Therefore men in the flesh could understand the milk of the gospel. It is a lock.

Let me ask you a question. If Peter and Paul each had this gift, then why did they argue.

If you have this gift you will know it. I have know trouble walking into a church or a group of people and FEELING who they are. This is not a gift you will pray for or want to have. (trust me)

It is no fun knowing and feeling what is going to happen. This is a gift given to those who draw the line in the sand and will stand there alone.

My girl friend had a girl friend who like this boy. (maybe 40 something)
I told my girl friend the first night that there is something wrong. (He claimed to be a Christian)
I said late that evening to my girl friend. (She was 63) that this man was not telling the truth and my girl friend and I did not have a good night.
For weeks both my girl friend and her friend kept telling me how great this man was and I did not respond.

He turned out to be all I thought he was or wasn't and more. I drew the line in the sand and had a couple of week and my girl friend had to tell me how I was right.

I already new that and felt sorry for all involved. Like I said it is a gift that you do not want to pray for.

Knowing the truth can warm your heart, but chill the hearts of those who know you. No one likes a person who is always right. Love can and does cloud your judgment with this gift.

That is a great question and one I think that most never take the time to consider, not just relating to the topic here, but with other issues such as 'why would two men taught by Jesus in whatever way disagree ? '

I believe the gift of discernment like all other gifts works at different levels in different people. I believe we all have it, but that doesn't mean it is as powerful for each person. The more you use it the stronger it gets, but some people will always have very weak discernment no matter how much they use it.

I also believe that we all have the gift of discernment to some degree, however some could argue that the gift is so small that it's not really a gift and it's more an ability.

I definitely have been given this gift, and I have prayed for it to be sharpened by the Spirit because it's not as sharp as I would like. There are things I can see or feel in dealing with situations or with people that jump out at me, and I am surprised that others cannot see it without greater evidence.

Having this gift definitely does not make me perfect. Having the ability to perceive what is good and right does not mean I always exercise the wisdom to act accordingly. I still need a lot of work on this. Also, having this gift makes me so sad when I see other "Christians" falling astray or following false doctrine. Most things seem so clear to me and it hurts when I see people who just can't "see it".

I Corth. 12:11 "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills."

It also shows that the body is made up of different gifts to aid the body in it's growth.

So I don't see it as you do, sorry!

I also don't see that use or loose or use and gain.

I see the Spirit control on who get what and He fills that person. You would not have a Church that all one gift and at the same use.

Perhaps you are right I will have to study it out more.

And please don't make your words so huge. You have a valid point, but don't make it agonizing to read by setting your font size so large, please. It truly does take away from the effect of your message.

Hey guys,

First of all, I see that the most important thing is to know the Word of God. If you know Jesus and his Word, bible states Heb 5:14 "But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." So we can learn to be wise, if we seek God and trust in Him.

I feel that I (maybe) have a gift of discerning spirits. Sometimes, when the priest is preaching, I can see he is shining. It's like a very bright yellow color. Hah, it looks like aura but I don't believe in auras! yack! I believe that God shows the annointment of Holy Spirit. In my opinion, it makes sense because the Bible stats Dan 12:3 "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."

I don't know if I should tell too much about this. But sometimes I've seen (really, not often) like a black figure behind a person. Well, usually I never know what to do.. so I just pray Jesus and ask if he could do something to it. And that helps. Sometimes I've just said after praying that "In the name of Jesus, go away" and they have left immediately. And usually (I really don't know why) I know their name also.. I mean, if I see a black figure, I somehow recognize it in my spirit; I know what's his name and because of the name I also know what his "influence".

And usually I recognize "the color" of Holy Spirit. If the priest is preaching, I see the yellow color around him, and usually all the Bible's verses pop up to my mind, and the verses betoken that all that hold together with the Word of God.

Sometimes I also see like the spirit of prophecy. It's like a blue color upon a person, and I just get the name "Spirit of prophecy" in my spirit. BUT I haven't find any statement in the Bible about colors like this, so I don't want to make any doctrine, and I really don't care to see too much. If something is not stated in the Bible, we shouldn't trust in phenomenon too much, because we are christian! So, in my opinion, the Bible is only thing which we really can trust in. Not the experience.

Hey, I have to go to meet a professor (i am at uni now, so let's talk more later about this)

Jesus Christ bless you guys!
