Do not be afraid

Does anyone here realize how many time this phrase is repeated in the Bible?

I was doing a word search tonight, and wanted to share this with everyone.

"Do not be afraid"

The NIV 65 times, and 46 in the NASB

and "Do not fear"

NASB 57 times, and the NIV 18 times.

Do you think that God is trying to tell us something here? Like Do not be afraid, for He is in control of our lives?

I like to tie it into this excert from Scripture myself:

Mt 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?

Mt 6:28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

We spend way too much time worring about the trivial things in life and not enough time talking with God and seeing what He has planned for our lives.

Why not take the time today and sit down with His word, and LISTEN to what He has to say to you today?

Howdy Tenorvoice,

Greetings. I enjoyed your post. One of my favourite sections of the word is the following. It is set in the context of great fear, when the Assyrian was poised to invade the land. It is also prophetical of Christ and his ministry as v.14 is quoted in Romans 9:32-33.
Isaiah 8:12-17 (KJV): "12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. 13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken. 16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. 17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him."

Kind regards
Trevor

Yes, there is no doubt that people who have no faith in God tend to be fearful in the approach to life. But I find that too many times we Christians also have the same problem. There are times when Jesus seemed really astonished at the fearfulness of the disciples, however, following that first New Testament Pentecost we do see a major change in their attitude.

Wow Dad, you sure put up a lot of verses.

I have a twin brother who is about to leave for Iraq. My mom has been going nuts about it. I keep telling her to just trust God that everything will be OK and that no matter what God's Will will be done whether it is keeping my brother safe or bringing him home to heaven (he is a devout christian.) I will print this list of verses out and show it to her, maybe it will help.

One of my favorite passages on this is Isaiah 43. A Hillsong group put it to Praise and Worship music and I sing it all the time.

Here are the lryics:

I
(Oohh...ahhh...)
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you
And the waves, will not overcome you
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you
I have called you by name, you are Mine

II
For I am the Lord your God (girls repeat)
I am the Lord your God
(I am) the Holy One of Israel, your Savior (2x)

(GUYS) I am the Lord
(GIRLS) Do not fear

III
When you pass through the fire, you'll not be hurt
And the flames will not consume you
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you
I have called you by name, you are Mine

IV
(GUYS)You are the Lord
(GIRLS)I'll not fear

You are the Lord
