Some do, some don't. :) It's considered optional. If you go into the Episcopalian parishes categorized as "Anglo-Catholic", most people there pray or are open to praying the Marian rosary. In some more run of the mill parishes barely anyone does, though. It varies a lot.

There are also what are known as Anglican Prayer beads out there, which are similar to the Marian rosary in concept, but have a different number of beads and different prayers associated with them.

Interesting! There are two Episcopal parishes in my area. I have not visited either of them. I would like to visit one or the other sometime soon. I don't know if they are Anglo-Catholic or not. I don't think they are. I think that they are just "run of the mill" Episcopal Churches. :)

Yes, many do. In fact we did an online Marian rosary here on STR several months ago.

Thank you for this information.

I have another question. Can you get your rosary blessed by an Episcopal priest or do they not do that sort of thing?

Yes, you most certainly can. We have also had our '69 MGB and Buster (our dog) blessed. I think you will find most Anglican practices are very similar to those of our Roman See brothers and sisters. Yours in Christ. John23237

I think you'd enjoy visiting. We're a very welcoming bunch. :) Our newest slogan is "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You: Come and Grow". :)

I think most Episcopalian priests would probably be willing to do something like that for you if you asked.

Uck, if i was a wandering Christian and didn't know the first thing about Anglicanism then that slogan would send me running for the hills!

It is really terrible!

What prayers are associated with the Anglican beads?

M.

People are allowed to use whatever prayers they find most helpful to them spiritually. Some common combinations are listed below, though:

1. The Cross
Blessed be the one, holy, and living God.
Glory to God for ever and ever. Amen.

The Invitatory
O God make speed to save me (us),
O Lord make haste to help me (us),
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

The Cruciforms
Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord. You that stand in the house of the Lord, lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord.

The Weeks
I lift up my eyes to the hills;
From where is my help to come?
My help comes from the Lord,
The maker of heaven and earth.

2. The Cross
In the Name of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Invitatory
O God make speed to save me (us),
O Lord make haste to help me (us),
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

The Cruciforms
Holy God,
Holy and Mighty,
Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy upon me (us).

The Weeks
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Have mercy on me, a sinner.

Or, in a group setting:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy upon us.

More information about Anglican prayer beads and more sample prayers may be found at:

That site is where my examples were taken from as well.

I always found the little "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You" signs they have on the roadways quite welcoming. :) A lot of them actually list a parish name and then say "turn left at light" or something like that.

One time I came across one that said "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You: St. John's parish 4 miles ahead on right" or something like that. About 8 miles later, I saw another one that said "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You: St. John's parish, Go back 4 miles.". For some reason, I found that quite amusing at the time. :)

That bit's not too bad, but 'come and grow'?!?!?!

Well, some parishes have quite tasty donut spreads at coffee hour. Maybe they mean outward. ;)

You know...Episcopalians have simply the best sense of humor. ^_^
Yeah, I definitely love the signs but the 'come and grow' i don't like so much as a welcoming slogan.

Hello. Do Anglicans and Episcopalians pray the rosary?

Many Anglicans use an Anglican Rosary, which is a smaller version of the Marian Rosary. It consists of a cross, an invitatory bead, four cruciform beads, and four weeks of seven beeds, totally 33 beeds. It is excellent for penitential and Christological prayers, petitions, and supplications. You can even use it for the Daily Office.

The Marian Rosary is also used by Anglicans as well.

I have another question. Can you get your rosary blessed by an Episcopal priest or do they not do that sort of thing?

Yes. I had my Anglican Rosary blest.

Quite a few, I'm sure.

My Anglican Rosary included instructions on four different prayers. One of them, a Trisagin and Jesus Prayer, is my personal favorite. It is an excellent penitential sacramental. The others are a prayer of St. Julien of Norwich, a Celtic Prayer (great Trinitiarian prayer), and a model for the Daily Office.

I don't know anyone in real life who claims to do this, and we have received no teaching on the rosary.

In our tradition, we are encouraged to have natural prayerlife with God, where we can tell him anything using our own words. In fact, we keep set phrases to an absolute minimum to avoid becoming 'super spiritual'.

When we are stuck for something to pray, we are encouraged to meditate over a few bible verses (maybe read a Psalm...), or perhaps pray using the gift of tongues.

Just wanted to "ditto" what PaladinValder said.

In fact, the bookstore at my parish sells rosaries (both Anglican and the traditional Marian/Dominican), as well as books on praying the rosary. We've also had rosary prayer groups and a few workshops on praying the rosary - there was even one last year where participants could make their own. :)

Wow. Anglicans/Episcopalians believe in the gift of tongues? Do you believe in praying in tongues or speaking in tongues or both?
