If a married couple seperate, and are going into divorce proceedings... but it is taking a long time.. perhaps one of the partners is dragging their feet and doesn't want to divorce, but the first person is adamant that the relationship is over.

Now, person one meets a good Christian at church... Is it ok for them to date? Say they are not sleeping together, but they do kiss and cuddle.
Is that acceptable for a married, though divorcing Christian, to be dating and kissing?

The issue with divorce in Christianity isn't divorce itself, but sexual relations with the new spouse after remarriage. By sexual relations I mean that which causes pregnancy.

So if she doesn't get pregnant it's OK?

Kissing and cuddling lead to harder things. It’s not going to stop there. Adultery is not the unpardonable sin. I guess that’s where they are coming from when Christians remarry. Man was not meant to be alone and all.

i don’t think it’s right to lead someone on that way. Not a sin I guess

Jesus seems to state that divorce except for reasons of (sexual) immorality is not allowed and leads to adultery if the woman remarries (Matthew 5:32). That sounds quite strict relative to most churches' practices, but it is what it is ..

For other cases (so where there is no sexual immorality involved), Paul states three times that the woman/wife is bound to her husband and should either reconcile or stay single (Romans 7:2, 1 Corinthians 7:11, 1 Corinthians 7:39). He didn't write the reverse for the husband because that was not a Torah requirement.

It is considered adultery if the divorce is based on anything else other than that. Blessings.

Best to completely end an relationship before starting another ... one is still married until they are divorced.

Navigating divorce is tough, especially with faith in the picture. While emotional support is crucial, consider being cautious with dating and physical intimacy until the divorce is finalized. Seeking advice from a trusted spiritual guide can provide clarity.

Am not sure how things are in your country but in N. Ireland a lawyer would absolutely forbid you to date another person before your divorce is through. Person 1 may have had a good reason for the divorce but, by dating, he will allow person 2 to muddy the waters and possibly win custody of the children, support, etc., etc., and come out smelling like roses whilst person 1 comes out smelling like you-know-what!

A person coming out of a divorce is a person who probably has a lot of things they need to work through for themselves. From a purely practical viewpoint, all else aside, is it prudent to enter into a brand new relationship before the last one has even been fully put to rest? Give yourself breathing space.
