Now, to me this is meat.. So I wasn't sure if this was something ppl wanted to discuss..

I wanted to take a look at scripture and see what was said on the matter..

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (KJV) “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; [FONT=arial, sans-serif]9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:”[/FONT]

I think it's one of the most important spiritual gifts, especially in this age of apostasy. It is the gift to be able to discern what spirit is behind something, whether it be a teaching, or some form of media, or the actions and attitudes of a person. It is to be able to discern between the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. The kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. I find that there is a spirit at work in every circumstance and so the gift allows us to tell what that is.

Thats interesting thank you for sharing that. So what do we look at to determine if its good or evil?

The gift of discerning of spirits also distinguishes when angels or demons are present and what is behind a thing. It is quite an in depth gifting... but as with any gift, it must be birthed by God in the person and grow from infancy into maturity. This doesn't happen overnight.
Some Christians believe they have the gift of discerning of spirits when in fact they just have a judgmental spirit. A judgmental spirit can tear a church to pieces when combined with a loose tongue (and it usually is!). I believe God will only give discerning of spirits to mature, tried-in-the-furnace Christians who've demonstrated the commitment to keep his/her mouth shut and pray. lol.. funny, but true.

especially on the .."what is behind a thing " .. i so get that .and I also receive the gentle rebuke/caution you popped in there .
