Last year, President Trump signed legislation imposing punitive sanctions on Russia for belligerent activities including human rights abuses, and evasion of existing sanctions.
Throughout 2017, President Trump worked to punish Russia for its belligerent behavior in Ukraine.
President Trump sanctioned more than three dozen organizations and individuals involved in the Russian incursion into Ukraine.
Trump approved the largest sale of lethal defense weapons to Ukrainian forces in years in a move widely praised by U.S. and Ukrainian officials.
In response to Russia's retaliation over U.S. sanctions, the Trump administration ordered Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco and two diplomatic annexes in New York and Washington.
The Trump administration has condemned Russian leaders for violations of human rights, and strongly condemned Russia for an attempted assassination in the U.K., calling the action an "assault on U.K. sovereignty" and a "clear violation" of international law.
President Trump has taken concrete actions to bolster the NATO alliance against Russian influence.
The Trump administration has increased training and drills with U.S. NATO partners.
In 2018, the Department of Defense plans to increase European Deterrence Initiative spending by $1.4 billion dollars.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said European members and Canada, amid pressure from President Trump, spent 5% more on defense last year compared to 2016.

The idea that there is or has been some sort of Bromance is nothing more than another instance of the Left finding a word that has some impact, completely apart from whether or not there is any truth to it.

President Trump knows what he is doing. He knows he can make any claim on any subject and for many in his base it becomes fact.
Even with claims that are the opposite of his claims from the recent past.

President Trump can be a bit fickle at times, but that doesn't deter the faithful from agreeing with his last utterance on any topic.

especially those sort of claims. Who's the public supposed to believe when it comes to the past? The fake news?

His telling Germany they should not spend billions on Russian oil didn’t help the bromance. It’s not even friendly to do that.
True. It is supposed to be a "bromance" any time that Trump says that he would like better relations, but every time he does something that is hostile or punitive or critical towards Russia...that is supposed to mean nothing. In the opinion of the usual naysayers, that is.

When the media isn't accusing Trump being a warmonger they are accusing him of being too soft.
Bingo! Just look at the latest. He is being told by the Dems not to go to meet with Putin and they are also demanding that he act on their agenda when he meets with Putin.

But they have no problem with Germany doing a deal with Russia.

Mostly, but there are entertaining times right after he changes his mind but before the true believers hear about it that they are arguing against his most recent claims.

1) Trump wants a better relationship with Putin, just like past presidents.

2) Putin has complimented Trump, one of the few leaders to do so. Putin meddled in our election and acted against Clinton (and therefore in favor of Trump). Pro-Russian Ukrainian interests helped in Trump's election (Manafort). Mueller has given us a couple of dozen indictments (so far).

3) Trump has never directly attacked or opposed Putin. Trump has taken many actions that Putin has cheered. That is to be expected.
=========
A) Let's be honest. Putin has helped Trump a lot. Trump wants to have the power and authority that Putin has. Why would Trump attack a foreign leader that clearly has helped him? After all, Trump has HIS own interests in mind.

B) JUST BY THE WAY
Mueller has NOT (yet) implicated any Trump person in the conspiracy of Russian meddling. However, the Russian meddling has been clearly proven (as has been the case for many months). From the beginning many have suspected that Trump folks were simply too stupid/ignorant/naive to cooperate in a conspiracy. This analysis says (as Rosenstein has said) that Trump people may have helped the Russians in their efforts, but may not have known that they were Russians, and even when they knew, they may have thought that they were themselves were doing nothing illegal.

The BOTTOM LINE is that we seem to have the status of much of the Mueller investigations at this point
A) Russians interfered and have been indicted.
B) Many Trump folks have pled guilty or been indicted for various crimes, many not related to the Russians. Some have indeed involved contact with the Russians.
B) "Proof" of collusion by Trump folks is still an open issue.

Given that the Mueller investigation is only a year or so old, this is quite a lot. The Benghazi investigations took over 2 years and yielded no indictments. Investigations of Reagan, Nixon and Clinton took much longer.

Except that those comments that you're referring to weren't hostile or punitive or critical towards Russia. They were hostile and critical towards Germany.

As usual, Trump supporters will defend Trump with facts that defy observable reality.
