Also at least with New Mexico and maybe Texas the high human trafficked population may require additional federal money. My wife social worked for the school and dealt with a lot of kids and their aid was automatic for schooling they are not discriminated against and if they are living with someone else they are considered homeless and get added benefits.

...let me know when a few states organize to secede. As it is, the op is quoting one state senator from NY.

Oh, tell me again which states do not rely on illegal labor?
I just know which political party is really upset over the prospect of losing it.

Which illegal labor? Child sex workers, child slave labor? Drug making and selling?
false virtue signaling of the left, would like to turn this into an issue of millions here from all over the world to pick our crops, and process our food. Thank goodness the trump administration is firstly focusing on the recovery of these poor kids Libs ignore them. Going after the criminal element first.

A) There's no constitutional right to secede, that was cemented in numerous court rulings following the civil war.

B) Even if that legal precedent hadn't been set, such a thing would require a tremendous uphill legislative battle (thus the reason it's been difficult to try to achieve statehood for PR...if matters like that were simple, Democrats would've done it already)

It would be even more difficult in this sort of case for a litany of reasons,
- the rest of the blue states aren't going to be keen on giving up one of their major electoral states
- one could make a strong argument that a person (or property owner) can't be compelled to trade their US citizenship (and rights contained within) for Canadian citizenship ("Sorry, we're Canada now, you can no longer buy XYZ, and if you're a business owner...sorry, we'll be fining you if you don't get French signage put up in your business")
- all federal buildings would have to relocated out of NY.
- what's do be done with the elected congressmen and officials for the state of NY, do they automatically become Canadian MPs?
- our stock exchange is seated in NYC, so we'd have to relocate our financial district.

And the biggest one...and this can't be stressed enough, you could need the buy-in from Canada lol

Do you think Canada wants to inherit a bunch of high-crime cities (by their standards) that would effectively almost double their national population size overnight?
(total population of Canada is currently 38 million... NY state has 20 million and Mass. has another 7 million...and another couple million from the two other states mentioned)

Right now, the state of NY receives about $90B in federal transfers every year in order to stay propped up.

Ontario receives $3B in federal transfers from the Canadian government...anyone else think Canada may have some issues trying to absorb a state like NY?

That's why all of these "we're going to secede" sentiments are dumb.

"Our guy lost and the other guy won, we don't want to be Americans anymore" or "our team lost, so let's overthrow the government" ...if people don't want to deal with the consequences of losing, try doing the things that produce a win.

At the end of the day, the formula is pretty simple. Advocate for things people like, avoid advocating for things people don't like... do that and half the battle is already won.

Four States Could Secede From US and Join Canada to Avoid Trump—Democrat

A prominent Democratic New York State Senator has floated the fanciful proposition that her state and its northeastern neighbors secede from the United States to join Canada to avoid President-elect Donald Trump's return to office.
Liz Krueger, who chairs the New York State Senate Finance Committee, argued that the Empire State, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, could all suffer under Trump's new administration.
Citing his proposed crackdown on immigration and promise of mass deportation, the Manhattan Democrat believes liberal and sanctuary states such as New York could be threatened with cuts in the amount of federal funding they receive, a move the incoming leader and his cabinet have suggested, should states oppose new policy measures.
This is not the first time the New York Democrat has offered up a radical and improbable plan to counter Trump's policies, suggesting in September, ahead of his election win, that the bloc of blue states should join Canada.
Who is fighting against a Democratically Elected President?

What makes her think Canada wants to foot the bill for her promotion of breaking US immigration laws?

I wouldn't think they'd want to sign up for that bill.

It is really interesting that the Republicans accuse the Democrats of wanting illegal slave labor, considering that the Democrats want to legalize immigrants so they are protected by US wage and labor laws.and the Republicans refuse to require e-verify which would preclude them hiring illegal immigrants who are not protected.

They could be democratic about it and just move there with their illegal immigrants included Geesh. Why should Americans who voted for Trump have to move?

Closing the border would do the same as e verify. Dems are the ones that caused the influx.
We don't need milions upon millions of workers from all over the world

No, it wouldn't. People can be here legally but not permitted to work. Others might have come here legally on a visa but then overstayed, working.

Neener, neener.

Tell that to the DOGE boys who want millions of H-1B workers to displace would-be hard working Americans.

All policy issues and enforcement.
Nevertheless, e-verify is a different policy which has a different, lacking, enforcement mechanism.

It is not the doge boys who let them in.
Right, it is the DOGE boys who WANT to let a lot more them, the H-1B holders, in to take American tech jobs. If the boys were in a position to let them in, they would, but they are not a part of the incoming government except, for the moment, as advisors.
