Do any of you think Kutless, Jonah33 or even Big Dismal has the similar sound as Creed? I think some Christians bands try to borrow a little bit from Creed.
I know most of you don't consider Creed a Christian band, but their former vocalist, Scott Stapp is a Christian artist now. You can hear his new song (Relearn love) off the Passion's Songs CD. God bless you Scott!

yeah, that's a big pet peeve of mine. Skillet's new stuff also has that same boring sound, and 12 Stones, Seventh Day Slumber can sound like that too, Jeremy Camp, Building 429 & Slingshot57's vocals both sound like Creed grainy voice, and way too many other bands. I wish the recording guys would learn more than one style of recording for hard rock vocals, it's so flippin annoying.

so if someone has a similar voice as scott stapp, the band that they are in is automatically a creed "rip-off?"
One would thinks so, but I personaly do not think that way. Kutless is one of the best bands ever...IMO.

Well, heres what I have to say about that. First off I found out about Creed (Scott Stapp) because some people said my son sounded like him in a song or two. In my perspective, Scott sometimes sounds like my son! LOL ;) So, thats how I discovered Creed, which by the way, I love his voice. My son just sings the way he sings. Some songs are different and a softer voice is used and some songs are rougher, because the feel of the song dictates. I see him everyday create songs and work on them, and believe me, he has no agenda to steal a sound. And neither are other artist, no one is ripping off of anyone. We know the guys from Jonah 33 (who we love also) and they are not ripping off anyone either. They are just making there own music. Where do these accusations come from?? Why would it irritate you if one persons voice sounds like someone elses?? Don't you realize that serious musicians always want to be unique, so the last thing they want to do is "rip someone off". Unless of coarse they are like Michael Tait, and doing a tribute thing like he has done with the Nat King Cole version of The Christmas Song, which by the way is beautiful! Any ways, if you don't like a certain bands vocals, don't listen to them, it is your choice, but why waste your time and everyone else's by falsely accusing. These Christian artists don't have it easy, they are not rolling in the dough and they are constantly getting bashed for one thing or another.....they are Too Christian, They aren't Christian enough, They are ripping off a style, or sound, etc. etc etc. As the mother of an up and coming Christian band member, I have got to say that I am not pleased with the reaction I see from the "Christian" community when it comes to Christian artists! I have heard, first hand from other artists that this is one of the most discouraging aspects of entertaining the "Christian" audiences. Where is the Love that Christ spoke of? Look at it this way, if we didn't have Christian musicians putting out Christian music, secular music would be the only choice we would have besides hymns. So, just for that reason, I am thankful for Christian Contemporary music, and will do whatever I can to support it and the musicians who bring it to me!!!! I pray you all do the same :crossrc: If you only knew the true sacrifices they make to do what they do, I think you might be more compasionate and appreciative!! End of sermon! Thanks for listening, and if you agree, go out and find a Christian musician and give em a hug and tell them what you appreciate about them. :) God Bless you all!

Mike's mom

Scott Stapp stunk up the stage at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Awards Banquet... but that's not the point.

Creed was such a success that studios want to capitolize on it. Just like when Britney Spears made it big and all the sudden that sound was the only thing new pop artists were putting out--even in the Christian scene, you had ZOEgirl, Vienna, Rachel Lampa, Stacie Orrico, etc... Creed is like the rock version of Britney Spears. That's why the studios are grooming these rock groups to sound like that.

Hey, wgjones3, I guess you have a right to your opinion, but the bands I have talked to have not been "groomed" by any studios. Their sound existed before they were signed. And lets get real here, Creed was not the first to create that sound. Who here can name some bands before Creed that had that sound??? I can think of several, and would be happy to name them if no one else can. I wonder if you read my earlier post. I want to encourage everyone to listen to what you like, and support those artists with encouragement and Christian love. If you don't like a band or musician, why post any negative, just don't listen to them.

12 stones have a similar guitarist, but the singer sounds nothing like them (thankfully). the one thing i always hated about creed was scott stapp's voice... i don't have anything against him personaly, just his voice. the rest of the band i loved though... i'm still waiting to hear alter bridge...

I disagree, Like it or not, Creed set a standard for "some" bands out there today...unlike Britney Spears. IMO Creed is to Christian rock like Nirvana was to grunge.

 kutless is one of my favorite bands. two of my friends were at guitar center on sunday and they ran into Ryan, the lead guitarist of kutless, which is friggin awesome, but i am so jealous  . oh well

oh and kutless's song "tonight" apparently sounds a lot like some creed song, but when kutless was asked about this, they said they never heard that creed song before.interesting
