The huge, armoured Bull was a central part of the Opening Ceremony. The Bull was pulled on stage by 50 women representing the female chain-makers of the Industrial Revolution who made chains used in the slave trade. The segment featured the women breaking free from their chains to symbolise release from oppression. The Ceremony’s protagonist Stella then offers friendship to the Bull highlighting our ability for compassion and togetherness.
The Bull is made from machinery from Birmingham and West Country factories. It stands at 10 metres high, is 2.5 tonnes and can emit smoke and cry tears of blood. It was designed, built, and mechanised by a team of over 50 people from a UK-based special effects company.
He said: "I was really surprised when I got here how deeply Birmingham was involved in the slave trade because, traditionally, it isn't seen as a hub for the slave trade. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was the so-called workshop of the world so there was a lot of industry.”
He explained how Birmingham’s famous steam engine inventors Matthew Boulton and James Watt were “involved in the slave trade” and how they had “attempted to ship steam engines to Caribbean slave holders”. He said that Birmingham’s huge gun-manufacturing sector was also involved, with firearms sold and used to help capture and subdue slaves.
Dr Yannielli said: "The gun trade in Birmingham became controversial. One particular gun manufacturer in Birmingham, Samuel Galton, was caught up in this and so we look at his stories in our classes.”
Further research into digital archives discovered that neck collars made by the Hiatt company in Birmingham were used to imprison slaves, while chains made in the city and Black Country served a similar purpose.

Ever since John wrote about it, anyway!
It's far too often overlooked that in scripture "The Antichrist" isn't alone, that there have been antiChrists all along -- indeed those who tried to teach the Galatians that they had to follow the Law of Moses would qualify as having been antiChrists -- and for that matter, so would today's "prosperity Gospel" preachers!
It represents Baal, a bull headed god of ancient times. Pagan nations would sacrifice their living children into utd fiery arms. These nations were destroyed through people like Joshua. When Israelites got into such practices the Lord would send plagues and maurading armies and captivity.
