I want to wish a most happy Feast of the Resurrection to all of my friends in the Traditional Theology forum including but not limited to @MarkRohfrietsch @ViaCrucis @Ain't Zwinglian @Shane R @Paidiske @Deegie @prodromos @FenderTL5 @jas3 @dzheremi @Michie @chevyontheriver @boughtwithaprice @Andrewn @George95 @Jipsah and everyone else who has been such a great blessing to me.

I hope you had a blessed Paschal liturgy, and enjoy this glorious Easter Sunday as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ, this year on April 20th together for both those of us who celebrate according to the Coptic, Julian and Revised Julian calendars and those of us on the Gregorian Calendar.

If any of you have any videos or images of the services of your churches on Palm Sunday through to today, please share them. I might post some interesting liturgical texts comparing the historical celebration of the Paschal liturgy between the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox liturgies and the traditional Western liturgies, which are more similar than they are different due to the Hagiopolitan nexus of our worship. Indeed much of what we do on Easter can be attributed to St. Cyril of Jerusalem in the fourth century.

God bless you all, and please pray for me, a sinner.

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Unfortunately I have no photos; I was too busy doing all the things to take photos of them. I really must find a parishioner who'd be willing to take on that small task...

I have my older daughter do it most of the time. It's been a struggle to get her to understand what I'm looking for, which is not just any random shot from the first 5 minutes of the service.

Oh by the way @Jipsah @tampasteve Christ is risen! To my extreme chagrin I realized I forgot to mention you both in my initial post.

I had a fever of 103 degrees on Maundy Thursday and thus I fear it is quite likely I’ve omitted some other dearly beloved brethren who are very dear to me as well who are very dear to all of us in the Traditional Theology forum. And my hope is to invite our entire community to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ.

@PloverWing and @seeking.IAM please forgive me, I also forgot about you, Christos Anesti! Also my dearly beloved friend @Carl Emerson , Christ is Risen!

This is very embarassing. My brain got fried a bit on Thursday with that fever I think, since I seem to have forgotten half of my friends on the forum. Thanks to your prayers I am feeling better.

The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

I don't have photos to share, but one of the parts of the weekend that stood out to me was the kindling of the new fire at the Vigil on Saturday evening. We gathered outside around a fire pit laid with wood and some crumpled paper. The priest lit the fire, and it caught... and went out. More paper, lit it again... went out. One parishioner came and rearranged the wood a bit, while another gathered some small sticks to add, and on the third or fourth time it caught and stayed going. Then the lighting of the Paschal Candle. Four or five times, as the priest tried to transfer the fire to the candle, the wind blew it out. Finally, with multiple people shielding the candle, it was lighted and was carried into the church.

The whole thing struck me as a parable of our communal Christian life, like the parable of the sower told with fire. We start, and fail, and start again, and fail, and God persists with us until, finally, there is fire.

@The Liturgist , may the Light of Christ burn in your heart today and throughout the coming year.

Alas, since I moved my new church does not do the vigil. Another church I visited frequently while deciding where to attend also does not do the Great Vigil of Easter. One has 3 priests, the other two priests, large choirs, and more than adequate financial resources. My inquiry to one Rector resulted in an email response along the lines of, "too much work during Holy Week," an answer that greatly disappointed me. Not to be denied, I traveled to a third Episcopal Church an hour away that does the Vigil even though they are smaller, poorer, and have less staff.

I am grateful to the self-sacrifice of those who work tirelessly to make Holy Week special as we wait with and honor the Risen Christ. Alleluia!

That would be very frustrating. If you have the energy, you should try an EO or OO Paschal liturgy sometime, which starts with Nocturns and Matins at midnight followed by a procession and the Paschal Divine Liturgy (note: the Armenians do not do this - they have only a Sunday morning liturgy, and the Syriac Orthodox tend to do both). These can very in length from around a minimum of three and a half hours, to many hours in the case of Coptic and Ethiopian Orthodox parishes.

That really is disappointing.

I must admit, I've been a bit like that about other things (like the ecumenical stations of the cross) but not about the vigil!
