no flags at all at our church.
I never heard of a "christian flag" until I read about it on a Christian message board.
Who made that up, when, and why?
What is the purpose of it?
I think I read about a "pledge" to a Christian flag too.
That just sounds odd to me.
I do not understand the purpose of such a thing.

we do not have the Christian Flag in my church, we have an american flag and a vatican flag on either side in the back

In Spain it's very unlikely that you see any national or Chirstian flags in church. A national flag inside a church would be a red light for me.
yes, it sometimes bothers me that we have a national flag in my church, we are suposed to be in the world but not of the world, but back in the day the big fear was that Catholics were not "true americans" so i think we started putting american flags in our churches to show that we can be good citizens and good catholics
we just may have gone a little over board

you never heard of it? i have seen it in many Methodist Churches, some Nazareen and even flying on a flag pole in front of some Baptist and Church of Christ Churches
it seems to be a Protestant thing
it was made when a superintendent of a christian school had to give a quick speach to some students because the scheduled speaker canceled at the last moment, he talked about the American flag and asked what the students thought a Christian flag would look like, years later he decided to make a Christian flag
I think it is ment to show the unity of all Christians because it is not tied to any one denomination
I have seen it in a Lutheran church as well, I am just most familair with Methodist because my Mom is a Methodist and i was involved with her church a lot when i was in high school

LOL before I came to CF, i thought almost every protestant knew about this flag

that is interesting. thank you for sharing that.

And apparantly you still think that everyone who is not a Catholic or Orthodox is "protestant" and they all do and know the same things.

We have the Christian flag, and a U.S. flag on either side of the church. We also have a United Methodist flag but it's not displayed.

I don't like the idea, but they are there. In fact, every church I've been in from Baptist to Presbyterian, to Lutheran has displayed the Christian flag at the front of their sanctuary, the only exception was the Catholic churches which had the Vatican flag (but in the same place the christian flag would be).

does your church have a christian flag?
have you seen it in churches when you visit differant denominations?
what do you think of it?

My nation has a Christian flag. The English flag of St. George is the Christian symbol for the resurrection - see Piero della Francesca's painting of The Resurrection in the Civic museum in Sansepulcro, Tuscany, Italy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resurrection_(Piero_della_Francesca, see also Giovanni Bellini's Resurrection of Christ http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/html/b/bellini/giovanni/1470-79/095resur.html and Hendrick van den Broeck's The Resurrection of Christ in the Sistine Chapel in Rome http://www.christusrex.org/www1/sistine/H.jpg).

We have flags from every nation in the world, NOT sure about the Christian flag.
that is neat

never even seen a methodist flag, just an anglican sheild
also, i have never seen a Christian Flag in a Catholic church, nor Orthodox church for that matter either
most, but not all, Catholic churches have an american flag and a vatican flag, hmmm, i think i have seen one with just an american flag, but most of the time they either have both or neither flag

A flag is a piece of fabric, often flown from a pole or mast, generally used symbolically for signaling or identification. It is most commonly used to symbolize a country. The term flag is also used to refer to the graphic design employed by a flag, or to its depiction in another medium.

The first flags were used to assist military coordination on battlefields, and flags have since evolved into a general tool for rudimentary signaling and identification, especially in environments where communication is similarly challenging (such as the maritime environment where semaphore is used). National flags are potent patriotic symbols with varied wide-ranging interpretations, often including strong military associations due to their original and ongoing military uses. Flags are also used in messaging, advertising, or for other decorative purposes. The study of flags is known as vexillology, from the Latin vexillum meaning flag or banner.
