I must admit that I am glad to see this happen. I love cats and I wish that nobody was allowed to eat a cat unless they were starving to death or something. I've grown up with cats as pets, have one now, and just been around cats all my life. It is amazing how intelligent a cat can be. This is not to mention how beautiful they can be as well. I just don't see how anyone could kill a cat for food when there is plenty of other types of food available. And no, I do not generally consider myself to be an animal rights activist. And no, I have NO affiliation with PETA. ;)

Yeah, I agree...I have two pet cats and the thought of eating any cat turns my stomach and sort of makes me want to cry a little bit:( . It's a cultural thing though....in India the thought of eating a cow might cause someone to feel a little ill!

(Cultural anthropology is fascinating to me:))

I don't see the big deal to be honest...it's really only because we keep these animals as pets. If they're treated as humanely as other animals bred for meat and have at no point been a pet, whatever. I mean, I couldn't eat a cat personally, but then if I was from a traditional Indian village I might find it hard to eat beef.

It is all cultural. In India a cow is sacred, here it is a hamburger. In reality there is not much difference between these various animals other than what our culture has ascribed.

I would have tried cat, as I woudl have dog. just because these two animal species have become toatlly pampered artíficial life forms in western society doesn't mean everyone else on this planet has to follow that lead!

People eat calf, baby cattle - some would find that disgusting!

Yes, in India cows are sacred. Why? I am not certain. However, I do not consider cats to be sacred. I just think it'd be cruel to kill one and eat one. Of course this is my personal opinion. I could never condone the eating of a cat unless the person was starving to death. I guess its just a psychological thing that people tend to be against eating animals that they have feelings for. I guess if cats had never been known to me as pets then I wouldn't care if I ate them. But as it is, I cannot eat cats. I do respect the opinions of others who would like to eat them even though I am offended at the prospect of eating a cat.

Is it crueler to kill a cat or a pig for food, and why ?

I have a cat and a dog. Both very smart most of the time. I love them to death, no pun intended;) But pigs are quite intelligent and we serve 'em as bacon and chops. So it is a cultural thing. Just ask the French. They love horses, snails, and frogs:sick:
