Hey everyone i was wondering if any of you had any good ideas on putting together a visitor package for our first time visitors in the childrens ministry. It would have to be something relevant to the kids, but also informative to the parents. Any suggestion how cool ways to put it together would be apprecitated. Thanks

Ortienal Tradings has alot of Christian things in there, partically at Christmas and Easter time. Look on their website for small items that can fit into a ziploc snack/quart bag. Also, if your church has a Childrens Minstry newsletter fold it up and put it in there so the parents can learn about what their children will be learning

McDonalds didn't get where they are because of quality hamburgers! The created a package...a box that has puzzles and games on the outside and inside (along with a cheap burger) they put a prize!! Ask the cereal companies about that. With a little creativity and some photoshop work on cardstock, technology today allows us to do some pretty competative work. Create a package that kids can write on and do games on then put a surprise on the inside...wow you don't even have to hire a billion dollar marketing corp.

I've seen a small series of tract size comic books, at the local Christian book store. I didn't buy any so can't comment on what's in it, but it seems to be value based, not so much Bible stories, if that makes sense.

Please don't give your children chic tracts!!! I'm still in counseling today!!!

just make up a little book with info about what you do, plus stick some games in it like puzzles and jokes, maybe some scripture about what your children's ministry is about. stick them in a little sealable plastic bag so stuff dosent drop out, and stick some sweets and maybe a cheap toy in it too.
and give them out when youre welcoming new people either up the front or in person when you meet them.

We attend a rather large church, for security reasons all children get 2 name tags - one goes on the child the other the parent turns in when they pick the child up (children cannot be released without the tag from the adult picking them up). First time visitors go to our children's ministry desk, fill out an information card and get a written tag (all others are printed off the computers). When they do this the children get a "special coin". The "coins" can be turned in at the end of the service as they leave for a "welcome bag".

Basically the welcome bags are white lunch bags with a balloon. I think when we got ours it had a snack (which we have actually helped them change as ours was a Reese cup and our son is allergic to nuts - not good!) I think they do suckers more now (I agree with Oriental Trading, when I was a Children's Director I used them all the time!), and a small toy. They also include a postcard with information about the Children's Min. program - dates & times of regular programing. I can't remember but I wanted to say there was also information for Karate Kids for Christ - so they may have been a sponsor or something for the purchasing of the bags. I now do Publicity for MOPS at our church so I make sure they put a business card (that I've created) in the bags as well.

I think a small box of crayons and little note book have been in some of them too. You can get a box of 3-4 crayons pretty cheap, usually sold in a set, and little note pads cheap too. Our church has children's programing during services but these would be great if you hand them out before the service and you don't have any during service programs for the kids.

Counseling is the best way, however, if they aren't ready to commit yet and don't come back, the tract can be the source they need later on. I know several people at my church that were saved through a tract they were given.

I think information about the church is important to include. Put the times of the children and adult services and a brief summary of what is done at each service. This will encourage them to come back. Also list any upcoming events such as VBS. And most importantly, include the plan of salvation. Kids like candy, but salvation is so much more important.

I have always thought that a CD of common children's songs that we sing at our church would be a good idea. The cover of the CD could contain the times of services and other info. But also including some puzzle and fun worksheets would make it more fun for the kids too.
