Are gay Cardinals what the “Lavender Mafia” is or does that include priests?
Priests, bishops, cardinals, whatever.

Don’t think anything has changed. It’s just more open now. I’m a big old movie fan and there were all sorts of homosexuals back in the day. Look at ancient cultures. Nothing new under the sun.
It IS an ancient perversion. It’s never gone all the way away. The religion of Israel was somewhat protected from it. Christianity was also somewhat protected from it. It was rampant in Greek and Roman culture. With the fall of Western civilization it’s coming back in a big way. No surprise it has infected the Church. I wish we were made of sterner stuff.

Not all people are chaste, heterosexual or gay.
Agreed. The Lavender Mafia rely on the complicit un-chaste heterosexual priests and bishops and cardinals who are as compromised as they are, just with less of an agenda.

Not me who says so, but Bishop Barron and other theologians and Vatican experts.

Pope Francis never authorized the blessing of same sex unions.
Fiducia Supplicans needs to be withdrawn and corrected to say that in plain unambiguous words then.

Yeah, earlier I was thinking of Rock Hudson.

That makes me feel better out our faith.
Well it’s a problem but we are fallen creatures that deal with the flesh. It does not make it right but I’m trying to look at things with a more merciful view. I don’t condone it and I believe a lot of clergy need to be disciplined that advocate for things that go against the teachings of the Church. But there is not much we can do but pray or contact a trusted member of clergy to discuss it with. I often wonder if some of these people that struggle with their sexuality are drawn to these vocations because of their struggles. Maybe thinking that by doing so it will help. Only to find out the struggle is still there. I’m sure they were sincere at the beginning but weakened over time.

But why would so many Catholic clergy be gay anyway?
The McCarrick method of abusing seminarians is a chunk of it. Selecting against chaste and normal seminary candidates is another. The requirements of celibacy will also be a part of it, but not the hugest part in my opinion. Coverup culture is bigger. As is our lack of intolerance for such a deviant culture in the Church. We need a new Damian. Badly.

Yeah - the thing is, though, how can a gay man think that joining the priesthood where they will be around a bunch of other men will help their struggle?

Maybe because they’re young and naive and are like I was when I put priests on a pedestal, thinking that because they’re priests they’re good people.

Well it’s not like you can avoid your own gender whether you are sexually attracted to your own sex or not. I assume they think they’ll be surrounded by holy men seeking their satisfaction in their vocations with God. I mean, it’s just my guess. But it would not like walking into a gay bar where temptation is sure to be everywhere. I can’t help but think that most go in with good intentions if they truly feel they have a calling. I’m sure many hope to find relief in that calling on many levels. But like I said, it’s just my guess. It would be interesting to talk to priests struggling with that cross to see what they say.

Yes. Again, it would be interesting to see what they have to say.

These days though (I'm not advocating it so please don't get me wrong, lol) gay men can "get married" whereas back in the day when many of these (presumably homosexual) priests were facing pressure by their parents to marry, they didn't want to give off the impression that they were gay, so they went into the priesthood? Who knows.

Are you saying clergy could secretly marry each other? Lol! Not sure where you are going with this. :sorry: (Remember I’m kind of loopy with this illness).

Illness? I didn’t know you were sick. You’ll be in my prayers.
