It's a Brazilian form of martial arts. A guy does it in the park and I often see him when I run. Today there were three guys out kicking, jumping in the air, turning around. It's like martial arts dancing. Very cool. The guy I usually see also has weapons that he uses in his routines. I struck up a bit of a conversation with them about it today because it's really cool to watch.

Yeah, I've heard of it. It's pretty sweet stuff, but I'm partial to the Israeli Krav Maga myself, I'm taking that starting this summer.
Krav Maga is the serious stuff. Not for competition or sport or exercise... It's pure destroy the other opponent and make sure they don't live to see tomorrow. (Great for self defense.)

I dated a guy who did capoeira and he tried to get me into it. As much as I can appreciate it, I appreciate it better from afar. ;)
Yeah...I was invited to join the guys yesterday but I declined. LOL I don't think I'm coordinated enough. Looks like a good workout, though. I enjoyed watching it.

There are actually elements of Capoeira designed to destroy the other opponent and assure that they don't live to see tomorrow.

Do a search for Mestre Morcego showing a few of the tecnicas de luta. The video is on YouTube and it's called "tecnicas de luta".

Everyone is up on Krav Maga these days because it is purely utilitarian in nature. Many martial arts the world over are less about practical application and more about competition.
Savate is interesting, and grew mainly out of street fighting techniques. So it's also fairly practical. But I guess if you're really worried about self defense you should just take handgun training courses.

That is a viable alternative for those of us who hold badges and have arrest powers. For those of you who don't (..and who don't live in states that allow concealed/open carry), utilizing a firearm will likely result in a negative encounter with the law. FWIW I am in favor of open/concealed carry, but that will probably never occur in this sunny state of California. Maybe boxing might be a better option.

As a friend of mine once said: better judged by 12 than carried by 6. The problem with boxing, or any form of hand to hand self defense, is simply that they required physical strength to execute. Even a well trained fighter can find him/herself quickly over matched by a stronger foe. A firearm is a great equalizer, anyone strong enough to pull a trigger can quickly kill any other individual. Size and strength mean absolutely nothing.

It doesn't surprise me that you chose a scene - from a very bad movie no less - with a guy doing acrobatics to qualify your statement (...while simultaneously failing to address the statement that I made before you). If I had 50+ posts, I'd post the Mestre Morcego link myself. Nothing about the "fight techniques" will remind you of zoolander or that silly movie Never Back Down.

ProAntiRevolution...

...like I said earlier, I agree with you. A firearm is the great equalizer.
