Our Sunday a.m. service will follow our usual pattern.

Sunday evening will be a Carol service. Not sure about the candles.

Christmas Day 1hr a.m. with the children and Santa.

May the Blessing of the Lord God Almighty rest upon His Church worldwide, as we Celebrate His Wonderful Birth.

Sunday am, normal service
PM, Candlelight service
There were actually churches in our area that didn't have Christmas service last year cause it was on a Sunday-I was kinda taken aback by that. I couldn't imagine cancelling church cause of anything besides weather (which we've done twice in the 14 years I've been there).

A Sunday morning service, no candlelight service.

We're having a Sunday morning communion service, but no evening service and unfortunately no candles:(.

I love candles. We used to have really nice candlelight services for Thanksgiving and Christimas, but haven't for a couple years.

What is a candlelight service? Is that advent?
2 different things...

Advent is the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. Each of those weeks has a different theme: hope, love, joy, peace. A candle is lit each week, representing those virtues, so that by the last week all 4 are lit... then on Christmas day, a white candle is lit, representing Christ as the light of the world. Usually these candles are held in an "Advent Wreath". I'll paste a pic of a couple here so you can see what they look like.

As to candlelight service... those are actually just what they sound like. We will have service lit entirely by candlelight. Usually, everyone has a candle, but at the start of the service just one candle is lit. Then, as we sing carols, starting from that one candle each person "passes the flame" and lights the candle of the person next to them-- symbolic of how the light of Christ is spread abroad in our hearts and lives. Once everyone's candles are lit, we continue on with mass as usual.

Morning worship 10:30 a.m., no Sunday School. We only have evening service one Sunday a month, the first Sunday (unless there are five Sundays in the month, then that Sunday evening is a healing service) so no candlelight. There might be candles on Wednesday Dec. 20.

Thank you, Father Rick, I had never heard of either of those services.

Just an aside, not that I remember those days myself, but the old tradition of Christmas morning church seems like the best way to celebrate Christmas. Whenever I have said something about this I've been told that it wouldn't work because no one would come. :o No one will come!? Not that there aren't "problems" with Christmas, but isn't celebrating God and Christ the point of the day?
