Can you help me find movies or documentaries that teach about the Bible?

I am interested in both old testament and new testament, I know that reading the Bible is the best option which I am reading but I would like to watch some Bible movies and documentaries too. I'm very curious how life was like back in the Old Testament, and what life was like as an early Christian from the time Jesus came all the way up to 300 AD.

If you have any suggestions please post them here

Jesus of Nazareth - old, but good.

Please check reviews of whatever you watch, on CF or with someone suitable from your church. There are lots of movies that ride on a "Christian" sounding theme, or a Bible sounding theme, but they are not all helpful for someone seriously trying to learn our faith. They might be very steeped in an unusual doctrine, or just made to get the dollars out of a dramatic theme. Find out if your choices are suitable for your intentions.

Here is a one page summary about the bible. Obviously an overview this short will not cover everything. If you want to get a visualization of what life was like, the movie Ben Hur can be a starting point.

The Bible - An Introduction

While there are many accusations against the bible, perhaps the only one that has some validity is that it is boring. This might be expected from an accurate record of what real people did and what they said. Fictional stories are contrived to entertain and to do this often have more exciting content. This bible was not written to persuade. It is simply truth. Those who delve into the bible for any other reason may be disappointed.

The bible is a record of human history. It starts with a description of creation and through Adam and Eve the choice to chart an independent course away from God that resulted in the difficulties we have faced in the world ever since. God made life difficult for humans not so much as a punishment but to curb the self destructive nature that we are inclined to as a result of our abandonment of God. However, humans got so much worse that God had to destroy everyone except eight people with a world wide flood. He also made things even more difficult such the we now only occasionally get as bad as people were before the flood.

A couple of hundred years after the flood God selected a man called Abraham and told him that he was going to be the father of a country that would be used to bring the knowledge of God to the whole world. That country was to be called Israel. The first part of the bible is called the Old Testament referring to the agreement between Israel and God at Mt. Sinai. Most of the Old Testament is a record of the failures of Israel in keeping their agreement with God.

The New Testament starts with the last prophet, John the Baptist, announcing the arrival of the promised king, Jesus, and the long awaited kingdom for the nation of Israel. The first four books of the New Testament are a record of where Jesus went, what he did, and what he said. While many did respond faithfully to this offer most did not and in 70AD the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and the Jews dispersed for almost 2000 years. There was an overlap period where the offer of the kingdom was still on the table before 70AD while a new program of a salvation offer was begun for the non-Jews. This overlap period can be seen in the fifth book of the New Testament called the book of Acts of the Apostles.

The rest of the books of the New Testament can be divided into two groups, the letters by Paul (the Apostle to the gentiles) and the books of Hebrews to Revelation written to believing Jews who still hoped for the establishment of the kingdom. If the nation of Israel had turned back to God and received her king, Jesus, a seven year period called the Tribulation would start and those of Israel would face great difficulty. Those gentiles that had become Christians would be “caught up” out of the world before this time of difficulty began.

In the book of Acts the disciples of Jesus asked when he would return and when the kingdom would be established. Jesus told them that no one knew the hour or day but the Father only. Because the bible is so sweeping in scope, many try to find ways to explain everything in terms of how we are the real Israel today or we are “spiritual Israel”. Some claim that we are building the kingdom and that when we succeed, Christ will return to take over the kingdom we have built.

Perhaps it can be less convoluted to see the bible describing a future time when a faithful remnant of Israel will receive her king and be the nation of priests that was originally intended.

Everything the OP is asking for on that web site, documentaries, feature length films, and some shorter dramas, you can choose by Bible story or verse.

People who make reports can put in things that they can use to support their philosophy and point of view, and they can leave out things that do not match with what they want you to believe. So, I am not swift to believe anything that is in a documentary or movie. But I watch them for however they might help me to get more out of God's word. But I pray about what I accept and I compare with what the Bible says.

And don't assume.

Yes, but we can need help from others who are more mature than we are. So, maybe more than seeing movies and documentaries, it is good to share with mature Christians who have learned in real life how to live God's word. There is >.

"faith working through love" >

this is what Paul says in Galatians 5:6. We grow in love, especially in sharing with mature Christians of the faith. Younger people making documentaries and movies might not be able to minister as maturely as real people we know.
but I would like to watch some Bible movies and documentaries too. I'm very curious how life was like back in the Old Testament, and what life was like as an early Christian from the time Jesus came all the way up to 300 AD.
I would say, be careful not to assume people know what really was happening, way back then. They could have an idea, but even people of earlier times did not personally know everyone else. So, they could only leave records of ones they did know.

People are not all alike, right? So, it might be not really possible for some historian to represent how things really were at any time in history. They might report what got the most. publicity of some sort . . . but . . .

To me, there seems to be a human tendency for certain people to make records and claim they speak for everyone or for all in a certain group. I suspect there were writers, even in Jesus' time, who could leave "records" like that, too. So, like I say, you can see what people have to say about the past . . . but invest in sharing with mature good examples who you know personally.
If you have any suggestions please post them here
I have offered a few that I go by. Take it with a grain of salt :)

Hi John (@JohnB445), here is an excellent, very well-done movie/documentary about the Bible. I'll include the entire HD movie (with all of its beautiful cinematography and insightful and informative teachings). The cast of contributors includes a number of well-known theologians, pastors, evangelists, apologists, historians and linguists, just FYI.

Enjoy :) (you may need to change the trailer and/or movie quality back to 1080 HD, even though I uploaded them here in HD, just FYI)

God bless you!!
