The Lilly of the valley - the sweet Rose of Sharon ... anybody remember the old song I've Never Been So Homesick Before? Great bunch of people here in this thread!

Bloved1, you missed it: you should have prophecied for that person to start a profitable career as a master brewer. (Sorry, just a little Wisconsin humor; the farms here really did used to grow the hops)

As do I. The gift of Prophecy is such that without those words spoken, that person might not have overcame. It also took discernment to know what those sensations (taste and smell) meant, rather than turning it into some crazy idea like what I posted in jest. I hope I didn't offend anybody? It was an off-hand way of trying to make that point.

Its a very good example of why we should earnestly covet the higher gifts, especially Prophecy. To the OP, if you go before the Lord with this type of prayer, that while you would love to smell that fragrance again you would gladly forfeit it to see Prophecy in action that edifies the Body, setting people free --

God can move in an environment like that :groupray:

I am sooo in agreement - the gifts of the Holy Spirit are very important and it is sad that there are people who criticize them. My spiritual mama is a great woman of God who operates in almost all the gifts and now pastors a church, but her greatest attribute is her unconditionally loving heart - She loves the rejects, the "dirty" and unlovely people whom no one else wants to deal with.. people who are struggling with sin. I'm so glad Father put her in my life as a teen to train me up in Him.
As for prophetic utterances, I believe that gift is available to all believers who draw near enough to Him and desire the gift in all truth for the right reasons. He has had me operate in this gift a number of times in addition to the prophetic dreams He's given me. I've received many many words from different sources saying He is raising me up in this gift. The only thing that makes me nervous is the fact that all the prophets in the word were viciously attacked - I'm already seeing some of that, and I've been the victim of much persecution already which Father has told me I will write a book about in the not too distant future.
I guess I said all that to say this: As exciting as it is to be raised up in spiritual gifts, there is a price to pay = persecution, being made fun of, criticized, unfairly judged & hated by those who are either envious or hate hearing God's rhema word.. We must count the cost, it's not all fun and in my experience, it can be a bit turmoiled although HE has promised things will get better.

I think DorothySue's gifting is awesome and I feel privileged that she is here sharing of it with us.. we're blessed to have you here DorothySue!
