Can Someone Pray Against You? What Should I Do?

I don't know where to post about spiritual warfare issues. I don't want to be superstitious (although it's embedded in my culture) but I've heard about people who pray against you.

For a long time, I've seen a pattern with a Christian brother (purely friendship with no prospect of anything more) where he asks for the actual first names of people when I ask him to pray for that person using generic terms like "my friend," "my sister," etc. And bad things keep happening with the people I gave him names to, as if they are under a curse or something.

Could he be praying against me, or is this the enemy's trick to make me think he's praying against me?

The bible tells us generally to think positively about people. To not judge them, without sound reason. In this situation there could be multiple reasons why these things are happening. Rather than judge, pray for God's protection over the people that you are praying for. God is bigger than any curse.

Even if it turns out that this person was praying curses, God is bigger than the curse. Plead God's mercy over these people. Think of the character of Jesus, if you came to him, and asked him protect these people, would He do it? The answer is God is surely protective, seek Him, and trust His power.

Treat is as a witchcraft curse, plead the blood, renounce it and break it off you.

I do not believe that God honors negative prayers against others. However, I am with you. I have always thought that asking for someone's name is not necessary and really a little bit of invasion of privacy.

If someone's praying against you, it's called witchcraft.

I'm sorry. I am a new member and am still trying to navigate this site. Can you tell me where I should post this kind of matters next time?

I have wondered the same since spiritual warfare is my calling.

Why dont you believe God honors such prayers? He said there are blessings and curses. There is power in our words both ways. Even Satan was permitted to distroy Job's world around him.

So you are saying that if this person is praying against me, God's honoring his prayer??

Anyone else care to comment on this?

Prayer opens doors for you to see God's workings in your life.
There is never a bad reason for prayers with The Father.
No harm ever comes to anyone from prayer.

Jesus was asked by His disciples if they could call down fire from Heaven on a crowd of people, and Jesus said "you don't know what spirit you are of, the son of man came to save lives, not destroy them"

James 4:3 says "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives..."

Can you elaborate why you say there is never a bad reason?

I agree. Jesus did not answer this request of His disciples.

Asking amiss does not necessarily mean God does not honor prayers that He finds spot on. Remember biblibally God has brought death and distruction on behalf of prayer. He knows what is amiss or not
